Again with the thumbs down and no comment as to why. This is the exact same as the home depot deal that just ended. Actually it might be better cause you get better options on the free tool. I doubt this is "hackable" though.

I have been using this saw model for a year. It is an excellent saw for carpentry framing. Lots of power and decent battery life.

Checked multiple sites before posting, looks like fastenersinc is $359 and oos and home depot is $349.

The rear handle is actually cheaper and more free tools to chose from when you use the promo code MOMSDAY, Came to $250 even with tax.

Just received email alert from HD, they corrected their price to $249 and it IS hackable. Select jigsaw then cancel/return to drop saw kit price to $148.33

I thought the $164 deal was crazy for this set, this is just ridiculous...

HD also has the top handle version for this deal

https://www.homedepot.com/p/Makit.../307288228

What is the better version for a novice home DIYer???
I plan to rebuild a wooden shed with my uncle and aside from that not much else major. I've already bought into Makita tools and this looks like a really great deal with batteries.
Thanks

Rear handle for left side blade and build quality. Top handle for ~2 lb lighter. Haven't used the top handle but had the rear handle for a bit before selling. It is very capable but a bit heavy for a go to when making lots of cuts. Depending on specific building needs I'd likely pair a miter or chop with one of these. Both Makita units here are a steal at the hacked price or with "free" tool.

Nice HD finally fixed the price! It was advertised as $249 for a few days already but still ringing up at $349.

I think the real deal here really is the new Home Depot hack, and I think it's almost worth it's own post as not only is the saw a great deal at ~150 but the jigsaw and other tools are great deals at ~80-100; and I bet most people don't realize that there is a Home Depot Makita hack in this deal. The hacks usually seem wildly popular.

The tool selection on this hack is better than last month's (only had the oscillating multi-tool). Still waiting for a hack with a paddle grinder, starting to kick myself for not getting the toggle grinder last November.

I am hoping that the free tool selection at toolnut.com shown might make it's way to Home Depot as I wouldn't mind having the planer, it would be handy to finish off my deck with it's crappy quality lumber.

The rear handle is a beast. Good for rough framing but very heavy and big. Both are overkill for a simple shed but the top handle is probably better if you are not going to be cutting 2x lumber or sheating regularly.
