have one. This thing is mostly useless. Will only read generic engine codes and DOES NOT work with Audis, BMWs, etc! Ended up getting it for free as the seller just refunded me.

Wouldn't a OBD2 reader with Bluetooth and connects to your phone be a more pleasant experience than dealing with this rudimentary screen? I bought a INTEY OBD2 reader for $4 from Amazon in 2018 that connects to my Android phone and gives me a much richer display with more information than this simple 5-line B/W display.

Not likely, look for a reader with SRS capabilities

I got a similar one [amazon.com] four years ago and it's been pretty handy. At this price, it's a steal. However, the first thing I notice is the interface with only two buttons seems like a big pain to use. Since it's something you hopefully use rarely, it may be tolerable, but I bet it'll be frustrating. This product has a Fakespot grade of "F" despite 13k reviews with a 4.6 average.

This alternative for $21 [amazon.com] (yes, I know it's twice the price) has six buttons and is likely easier to use. Fakespot grade of "C"

Note that auto parts stores will usually scan the your code for free, though if your car won't start or just to save your time from going there, a tool like this can be well worth it.

P.S. My friend's car was occasionally sluggish and had engine lights on. My code reader said "Evaporative Emission System Leak Detected (large leak)" and "Mass or Volume Air Flow A Circuit Range / Performance." Turns out she'd just lost her gas cap. Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)

I bought one of these from ebay and it never worked. It says MS309 but not Maxiscan on mine. These might be fake ones which read that there is a code... but fails to retrieve the code. Pretty useless..

Mine doesn't say Autel either... but you're buying here from the Autel store. So .. not fake I guess.

I recommend the THINKDIAG tool. Comes with a 1 year subscription to a vehicle brand of your choosing. But it does 95% of everything my OEM dealer tool can do. When you have another problem with your car, you can buy another year subscription.

I have a different Autel model. It's ok for reading codes but the manual is crap and I haven't been able to figure out how to use its more in-depth readings and what all the real time numbers mean. Are these readers fairly standardized and are there decent online how-to guides anyone can recommend?

Good catch!

You can type in your VIN information into the Hyundai website to check for any free recalls or campaign fixes for your car: https://autoservice.hyundaiusa.com/campaignhome

My car has 140k miles on it and I just had the door locks fixed for FREE!!!! They also did a hood latch and fuse fix while I had it at the dealership. ALL FREE!

Most auto parts stores will scan codes for free. If you want to buy one, make sure you get one that will actually read all the codes for your particular vehicles. If you go bluetooth, that might mean needing a paid app as well.

I agree. I have bought one before and it was cryptic as hell. Only useful if you have the time to research or are an expert at car codes.
