The 40mm f/2 semi-pancake at $247 is good value on a unique lens option. Ended up finding one a $219 from K&M: https://kmcamera.com/collections/...k20102-001 also available through their eBay store.

Lot of Nikon lens and body rebates for June.

200-500mm for $1050 is tempting.

I know nothing about Nikon or cameras at all... but wife wants to buy Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8E FL lens for $1,896, which is a good deal at $450 off - but researching it, looks to be from 2016 so pretty dated (I guess?).

With the big price drop, does this mean Nikon is clearing them out as they're gonna have the replacement very soon? This lens originally sold for $2,800 - assume their new version would be in/near that price range so if we want a deal, best purchase this lens now? TIA

Their "new version" is the Z-mount 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S, which is optically one of the best 70-200mm's on the market and is pretty new. It already exists, so I wouldn't worry about the 70-200mm f/2.8 E FL lens being replaced in that way.

But lenses and cameras are not like other forms of consumer technology: older doesn't mean worse and people tend to keep their cameras and lenses far longer than you would other forms of technology. Your wife may want that specific lens for a very specific reason -- either optical reasons (she likes the rendering, the form factor/weight, minimum focal distance, etc.) or because her camera is a bit older and it still uses F-mount lenses and not Z-mount lenses.

In short, newer doesn't always mean better. And with Interchangable Lens Cameras, newer may not be compatible with her existing gear. If she wants that specific lens, she probably has a very good reason!
