The main hangup with Allegiant is just the low volume — a canceled or missed flight can easily add days, not hours, to your flight. That makes nonrefubdable lodging and car rental bookings sketchy.
Considering they have one of the highest cancellation rates (if not the highest now) I would say often enough that you should have a plan B in place just in case.
this is correct. I fly them with some regularity, as they service my small town airport, but would not use them if I absolutely had to be somewhere at a specific time.
flights are canceled or delayed regularly, they do NOT have reciprocal relationships with other airlines (in other words, they won't book you on another carrier so you don't miss your meeting). that said, I've been happy with them when they actually fly, it's super cheap, especially if you don't need to check a bag. if you have the flexibility and the time, they're fine.
Man.. These are quite a few mixed experiences. There seem to be enough cancellation personal experiences to give pause. This seems to be the biggest concern. Getting stuck on the return flight (or even outgoing) with prepaid/confirmed lodging/car seem really scary.
Just flew allegiant air a few weeks ago. Awful flight times, every thing is a la carte. A lady sneezed and asked the flight attendant for a napkin — the attendant charged her $2 for the Kleenex and $1 for disposal!
(That's a joke.)
In all seriousness: flight was fine, perfect for a quick trip, especially people who don't need to carry much with them.
Should have just grabbed a couple bucks from her wallet. It would have saved her a buck.
It's dirty money anyway. Shoot before long a facial tissue will be worth more than our dollars. Wasn't long ago a bathroom square was. Not a square could be spared.
Booked a RT flight to Vegas, and it was canceled 1 week before flight. The remote customer service is ZERO. Good luck getting through via phone/online. Only book it if every thing else is refundable. Everyone I know (at least in this market) has had an allegiant cancelation if they fly regularly.
Be warned. The Low price comes at a cost.
Flying Allegiant is like playing roulette. They cancelled our flight home that night...rescheduled it for the morning...and then cancelled that one too! We have 4 children and it cost us a arm and leg to get back home through SW. This was flying back to St. Pete/Clearwater from Belleville. Be careful if that's your destination.

But maybe Living on the Edge isn't a bad idea..
