The main hangup with Allegiant is just the low volume — a canceled or missed flight can easily add days, not hours, to your flight. That makes nonrefubdable lodging and car rental bookings sketchy.
Only issue with Allegiant is if your flight get cancelled you are pretty much screwed. I had a friend who flight got cancelled 3 days before his trip. He ended up not going cause airfare is crazy expensive when it's so close so he just didn't go. I have also heard horror stories from other when the leg coming back gets cancelled. Than you don't have much of a choice. You could rent a car and drive but with gas and even trying to find a rent a car is almost impossible right now.
I'd rather fly Allegiant than southwest. I always get priority and pre buy the bags, it's so cheap anyways and the experience is again, ahead of southwest on the early bird or business side imo.
But the other posters are right, a delay can potentially be an expensive and stressful issue. However, since they only have one flight per day to whatever destination there is incentive to make it work.
I wouldn't recommend you book with Allegiant if you really do actually want to get to your destination. They cancelled my flight for our vacation on the morning we were supposed to depart. We lost the hotel, the rental car, the nonrefundable national park lodgings. If you decide to fly Allegiant you really shouldn't make any definite plans until AFTER the wheels touch down at your location. And if you really need to be back by a certain date - then you've got the same scenario all over again.

i wonder how they afford the Raiders stadium with that low volume

I have flown Allegiant dozens of times and have never had one canceled. I can't even think of a delayed flight. They usually fly into smaller airports, so it's super easy as far as check in and leaving.
But, if you have to check a bag, you'll pay almost more than the price of a ticket.
Happened to our party leaving Las Vegas for Grand Junction on a Monday, canceled the flight and said we could go home on Thursday. Had to rent a car at a premium and drive home. That is a problem with them, nice flights but if there is a hiccup the passengers are essentially screwed.
Allegiant's planes have issues where the engine's exhaust comes into the cabin.
I flew to Florida recently and I could smell strong burnt gas smell inside the cabin during takeoff.
Not on touchdown though.
I would never fly Allegiant again. My return flight got delayed 3 times, and ended up being cancelled. Next available flight was 2 days away. One and done with this airline. Fly at your own risk.
Since there seem to be only a couple flights a week to some places, how often are cancelled flights? If there are flights on Wed and Sat I don't see how I can manage any cancellation..
Considering they have one of the highest cancellation rates (if not the highest now) I would say often enough that you should have a plan B in place just in case.

You can still bring a personal item but if you're carrying on a suitcase for the overhead bin, expect to pay for that.
Otherwise I was surprised how much I enjoyed them.
