RO Classic briquettes are $0.45 per lb at Lowes every day. KBB isn't nearly as good as it was a decade ago.

Yeah. Maybe we'll see some of the store brand RO cheaper over the weekend. Anything with the "ridge" design on the bag is made by them. RO Orange bag briquettes (not lump), Embers (HD), and Expert Grill (WM) are all the same formula. It's just the store brand stuff are "seconds" where the stamp wasn't perfect.

At $0.51 per lb, I think the RO All Natural [walmart.com] from Walmart is a better buy. No piney Kingsford taste. The binder is some vegetable stuff instead of limestone. Seems to burn longer and make a little less ash. Everyday price and free delivery at 3 bags.

If you want wood flavor, use wood.
And Kingsford tends to keep hot longer.
Kingsford and wood chips is far superior, imo.

For those of those with a Costco membership, keep an eye on their Kingsford Professional sales, at both regular locations and business centers. The business center locations currently have $5.50 off 36lbs (two 18lb bags), limit three per transaction. I paid $16.49 per, last week. Last month the regular locations had the same price. I do find that the Profession briquettes are a bit better - not necessarily full price better vs. regular blue bag - so at this price, and charcoal prices in general, I have been stocking up.

My local Costco also had El Diablo lump charcoal last Summer, it was 40lbs for $14. Hope they have the sale again this year.

Good call! I forgot to mention that. My local, regular, Costco's don't carry lump, but the business center does. I can't recall the price, but it was still fairly reasonable.

For those in the SF Bay Area, Lazzari Fuel is my go-to for lump, wood chunks and firewood. Great prices and I have found them to be very helpful, too.

Here in SoCal we have Sonora mesquite lump which is very similar to Lazzari, they have 40lb bags at Smart and Final for $17. I like it for certain cooks.

Keep in mind that pro burns hotter and faster. A lot of people don't like it for everyday backyard grilling. YMMV of course.

I like Lazzari for my smoker. Sadly they raised the price to $27/40 Grrr. I picked up a bag of B&b on Sunday at Ace on saleMad Garbage just garbage!! guess I'm back to Lazzari

Are you buying directly from them in Brisbane or elsewhere like Safeway or Ace? The last time I stocked up on lump a few months ago, directly from them, I think it was still around $15 or $18 for a 40lb bag - I honestly can't remember exactly how much because it was a while ago and I also picked up a few 50lb bags of wood chunks, too. If it is $27 now, I might have to ration my last couple of bags until when/if prices come back down, or I have to buy more.

They must have changed the formula in the past few years. I stocked up a while back, with this new batch I notice that the coal burns faster so you have less time to cook. I tried their professional brand and that seems to be ok. Just beware.
