For $25 you can go from a 350w to 500w power supply, seems worth it.

And for $10 you can upgrade the Wifi/BT card.

Dell and Alienware PCs are very easy to swap parts.
A lot of Dell computers used to use the BTX form factor which made it a nightmare to upgrade, but iirc, most Dells today use standard ATX/mATX form factor so they're easier to upgrade today.

Does anyone know if a non-HP 3070/3080 could be swapped into this? With upgraded thermals, would this combo be practical?
Maybe, any GPU under 10.5 inches will fit in this. I probably would recommend it.

The Intel 12400 is slightly better, but not a huge difference. Around 5% in most games.

I actually prefer it if it just came with one stick 8 GB ram, buy another stick for $30ish and you good to go.

EDIT

Noticed you want to compare it 11th gen. It about exactly even with a Intel 11400.

5600G is 15% faster than 11400 per Passmark.

Depends on what you value and your use case. The CPUs perform pretty similarly in most benchmarks with the Ryzen performing a little better, but you probably won't notice it in daily use. If you value a longer warranty and more storage space, then go for the Costco deal. If you want to play games without immediately buying a separate GPU, then the HP would be better. Both would perform well in day to day stuff, especially if you add more ram.

I don't think there is a big of enough difference in performance to justify the $100. If you want to upgrade, I think upgrading to the 3060 is the way to go.

I would rather buy a new 3050 for the same or less than a used 1660 Super.

One reason to consider the 12th gen i5 is so you can upgrade the chip in the future. 12th gen uses a new socket that Intel will probably use for the next few gens. I think AMD is going to change sockets in their next generation of chips so upgrading might be limited but I'm not 100% on that. I built a machine around the 12600k in January and it's been a beast so far. I love it.

HP and LENOVO are BIOS whitelisted units (what's that mean you can't just stick in any old component as far as WIFI cards, RAM is usually tight specs 1.2v only vs being flexible 1.25v or timing, CPU microcode is usually never updated, and the BIOSes are usually RSA encrypted so forget modding and tweaking usually withing the first 3 years unless a die-hard user cracks it).

AMD 5600G is damn good CPU (and I kinda hate AMD) beats 11th gen and only reason 12th gen beat it is due to L2 cache (L3 is usually junk BUS speed vs on-chip speed) the gfx alone can play many new games at 720p with low/med settings with somewhat high fps vs intel UHD gfx (iris xe better but not sure it's better than AMD)

AM4 socket is done new AM5 socket coming out this FALL 2022 so keep that in mind.

PSU is custom BS so is case so dont expect to reuse this for anything else
