This book is about stoic philosophy as practiced by Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius, and I recommend it to anyone who likes books that might make them stop and think about their lives.

This episode of the BBC's In Our Time on Aurelius was pretty good, if (I think) a bit overly critical:

Might be useful background for anyone wanting to get into his work.

Of course the original works are always better but it's not the most accessible when trying to make sense of what's being said, that's why sometimes these books are a good companion to read along.
