Unless seller is verifying Bios versions these b450s without ez flash capabilities is going to be a hassle. If you got a supported cpu on hand it's a good deal though.

This motherboard has pretty week VRMs, so I wouldn't pair this with anything higher than a 5800X and even then with decent cooling.

I saw this but instead went for a used ASRock B550M Phantom Gaming from Amazon Warehouse. It's my first AW mobo, so I'm hoping it works out.

I'm new to this stuff, can you please explain what VRMs are?

Voltage Regulator Modules. They provide power to the processor. Slip is reminding us that expensive processors may not run well in cheap motherboards that have lesser quality VRMs.

I paid this price for the A320 version of this board a couple of months ago and this board is significantly better. So if someone is trying to basically build the cheapest ryzen system ever this isn't bad.

So don't expect to put a 5950x cpu into this motherboard 😂 gotta have low expectations. A stock 4 core ryzen or maybe you have an older ryzen 1600x laying around or something and want to make a cheap stock system this isn't bad. What's the alternative for the same price?

And this is Amazon and not goose egg (Newegg)

Good enough for a budget pc. You could stick a Ryzen 5. 3400g in it and have built in graphics to save $. If u plan to buy a 600$ graphics card … buy a higher performance board. I use a x570 asrock 4 pro

I'm going to get a loaner kit from AMD, or rent one from somebody on Reddit.

Link was the same as OP, but it appears they've now sold. Might be worth checking back on the item page in the future to see if more get mega discounted.

Showing $65 for me at the moment on Amazon and Newegg.

The (initial) 5000 series BIOS update was released almost a year and a half ago. Maybe these boards already have it. A reviewer from January said theirs came with it.

If not, it appears one needs an older CPU installed to perform the BIOS update allowing a newer CPU to run. I think there is a "loaner" program for doing this but still a P.I.T.A.

Somebody looking to build a capable budget system might use this with a Ryzen 5 5600G, two 8GB DDR4 modules, an M.2 NVMe SSD (capacity as required/budgeted, 1TB deals around $80 these days), and a cheap case with decent 400-450 watt power supply. Add a PCIe x1 wifi card if needed. The graphics built in to the 5600G are decent enough for some casual gaming, and if one wanted to rev up the graphics they could always install a dedicated graphics card later on.

Cheers

Yes - thank you for summarizing for me Smilie I do my best to not "PC Snob" but I like to mention the VRMs in case people have any intentions on upgrading in the future. It would stink to spend $60 then have to spend another $100 years later if the user wants to step up to something like a 5900X or 5950X.

For a budget Ryzen build, there is nothing wrong with this board that I can tell.
