1. It only toasts one slice of bread at a time so definitely not for a family.
2. The plate is not removable for cleaning.

I own the Balmuda toaster and they actually came out with a US version with no transformer needed. I can't compare the two since I've never owned the Mitsubishi toaster however the Balmuda toaster is fantastic. A lot of people I know in Asia own the Balmuda.

and you need a >$100 transformer to take the ~120 volt US to 100 volt JPN or risk blowing the expensive kit up...like they did on the review in an earlier post. Extra volts are not good for electronics. In 1984 the NEC was changed so that the standard voltage used for load calculations was changed to 120 volts. Today utilities are required to supply you with voltage that doesn't vary from 120 volts by more than 5% either way. So that would mean your voltage should be between 114 and 126 volts. Most electronics can tolerate a 10% difference from rating and that may be around 110 volts for the JPN toaster.
Second, teflon is not a known cause of cancer, but may be a potential health hazard in large doses. There are mixed evidence and contradictory studies. Some show a small increase in cancer while some don't show any increases. There are some studies on lab animals that show a decent increase in cancer when exposed to huge amounts...amounts that you cannot possibly get from using teflon pans.
But that's like saying the sun is "dangerous" because the sun is sure to give lighter skinned people skin cancer if they stay out in the sun without sunscreen for 20 hrs a day. Or like saying fruits like apples and peaches are dangerous because of the tiny levels of cyanide in them. Dosage is very important - anything in small enough quantites can be harmless, and anything in large enough quantities can be harmful.

Also, where did you see about this toaster is designed for bread with rice flour? I read the item description but did not find such info. I read several reviews both from Amarican people and Japanese people but fid not read anyone mentioning about rice flour bread. Majority of people in Japan eat bread that is made with wheat flour.
