Fans are always on for mine too. Contacted Lenovo and they said it needed warranty service. They sent it back after replacing the fan (as if that would fix the fan settings). Of course nothing changed but then I noticed electrical noises and power drain even when shut down. So I sent it back in and they said they'd make sure to fix the fan this time. They've held it for weeks now 'waiting on a part'. Already past the deadline and no update from them. It's been almost 2 months since I bought the thing and haven't been able to use it. Had to contact Lenovo 10+ times because they wouldn't send the shipping label or box when they said they would, and several times they said it was already sent but they never really did. Just delay after delay and straight up lies. Nightmare of customer service - and I've been extremely patient with them. I'm definitely never buying Lenovo again
I daily a 'G2' version of this, and the fan was a huge issue until I found a video on youtube where they showed how to enable the 'processor performance boost mode' in the power option of win10. Seems Lenovo has this hidden/disabled, and set at 'Aggressive' so the fans would go max speed whenever the CPU did anything.

Once I made the registry change I changed the setting from aggressive to efficiently enabled, and the fan now only cuts on when I' really pushing the machine.
ThinkBook is NOT ThinkPad range. ThinkPad > ThinkBook > Ideapad.

Got one price matched via Best Buy chat. No issues at all, just asked for a price match and followed the CSR's instructions. Was offered same day delivery or pickup as there's multiple Best Buys within 5 miles of me that have it in stock.

I'll probably reinstall Windows to get rid of bloatware, and someone said that also fixed the loud fan issue for them so fingers crossed. Thanks OP!

This is a business laptop, so not much of bloat except for McAfee (two of them) which I promptly uninstalled. Otherwise, this is a very clean machine both hardware- and software-wise. I chose NOT to upgrade to Win 11 Pro at this time, but may plan to do so at a later time.

Update: Ended up returning this unit to get a Dell 13.3 from costco [costco.com]that has a lower resolution (1920 x 1200). It is an i5, but has double the ram, double the ssd, and has thunderbolt 4.0 for $550 ($125 more)

I considered that as well but some of the reviews on the Dell concern me. I also don't have a Costco membership, so I believe I would pay a 5% surcharge.

I'll look into them before opening the units. Thank you!

I went into Settings > Update & Security and updated everything on the list, including updating to Windows 11. The entirety took about 2-3 Hours last evening. I have been on the laptop all morning and the fan just whispers,

I just noticed I have no microphone available. No mic in Device Manager and camera recording app says no microphone available. Sound input setting show no input devices available. Hardware scan found no issues. BIOS settings has no mic settings. Any ideas or did someone else get one with a working mic?

I updated to Windows 11 and also applied the fan registry hack.

Answering my own question. I called Lenovo and BB for troubleshooting but no resolution for the missing mic. Then called my local BB and took it in for the Geek Squad to diagnose. The GS rep confirmed the mic was not recognized. He suggested either returning the computer for a refund or reverting to Windows 10 -- which we did -- and the mic then appeared in Device Manager.

This computer is OOS at BB system-wide so a replacement was not possible -- the SD Effect.

I confirmed you are able to set the UMA frame buffer size for the integrated graphics in the BIOS. The options are 512MB, 1GB, and 2GB (default). This changes how much of the 8GB of system memory is set aside for use by the integrated graphics.

Has anyone else seen strange graphical anomalies on the screen? Every so often I see some kind of flicker and a portion of the screen distorts. I'll update to the latest drivers. If it doesn't go away I may have to return.

Update: After fully updating the system I haven't seen the graphical glitches recur. Will keep an eye on it.

I have not been bothered by fan noise like many people have reported. I have not done the registry trick. Although I did fully update Windows and additional Lenovo updates (however I did not upgrade to Windows 11).

FWIW --

FN-F4 toggles the Microphone on/off. You might have toggled that by accident and it persisted from shut off /on in windows 11. When you rolled back to windows 10, it may have reset.

Only the speaker driver showed under Audio Devices in Device Manager. I don't think toggling the mic would remove the driver. I am still using Windows 10 but today I flashed Windows 11 Go to a flash drive and when it booted both the speaker and mic drivers were present.

Do you have this computer with Windows 11 installed and a working mic?
