I went through the whole process clip the coupon I added one to my cart and it still says the total is $3.88 unless I'm doing something wrong. I chose pick up in store so that's all I thought it was supposed to do

In store only. That's different than pickup. You have to actually buy it at the store.

I usually buy these free after coupon items with my other items. Never faced problems doing that.

Not a MM. During check out the coupon takes out only 3.59 (price @ my store) even though I had other items for checkout.
