Tp Link are fine, however for my specific use case I needed a hardwired backhaul for building my own mesh network. Tp Link did not support this, Asus does.

Price has been $60 and $70 before multiple times hence why this is not getting a lot of love, still not a bad deal if you need a router right away, way better than any of the older AC technology routers posted for $50+ here the last few days.

Yes Tp-link routers do not support this as they are made to work with OneMesh which is the range extender combo.


Wired backhaul works perfectly fine on all DECO items from Tp-Link that is the product line up that its intended for, not their standard routers.

Yeah the RAX20 at its MSRP of over $100 was a joke for what you got, now that you can regularly get it between $50-65 its definitely a great option for those who like netgear and need something basic on a budget, but still getting good overall performance. No matter which people choose way better than spending that same money on Wifi 5 routers.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll consider getting this and returning the AX21. Was a bit leery of Netgear as they seemed to not be a front runner anymore. Would you know what effect the additional antennas on the Tp-link have over this Netgear model?

That's funny. I've been searching for a new router for a few months and never saw these for this price at least new anyway. There seemed to be a lack of deals for a while until I happened to try to buy a refurb at Daily Steals. What a mess that has been. Then all the alerts started showing up. Still didn't see any Ax1800 for $80.

Agreed this isn't a smoking deal. But like you said, if you need one right away, it's not bad. Will have to consider the recommended Netgear above though.

Yeah, need to set alerts if you know exactly what you are looking for. I go through the router listings almost daily so I see them all the time.

One thing to keep in mind the SNB review does not actually cover the AX21 in its review, it just covers the AX20 which was in all cases prone to overheating issues hence the AX21 redesign. Some of the jitter/latency/performance issues seen on the AX20 could be the result of their poor design. So while the RAX20 is slightly better without a direct comparison hard to use the numbers of the ax20 and believe they will be 100% accurate in representing the outcome in a AX21.

Just pointing out they never tested the AX21 in this review but the older replaced AX20 model so you are aware.

I purchased a used Netgear WiFi6 router on Amazon for $31 that looks new and works perfectly. Can be set as router, access point, or bridge.

Netgear R6700AX AX1800 4-Stream WiFi 6 Router (Used - Good)

It's listed as $35 but price goes down daily:

If it tested well with two, that's good enough for me. It's 2x2 streams, so I THINK 2 is the appropriate number.

Netgear seems to be doing firmware updates longer and more frequently than tp. Asus is better than both in that way.

Well Asus is a special case, they do updates not cause they want to but cause they LEGALLY have to. They were sued by the government and lost hard so as one of the penances they have to support products for a long time to be able to do business in the United States.

My Rax20 has nonstop issues, requiring a power cycle at least once a day after it quits working, and has reset itself to factory settings twice.

Mine has never needed anything. It's got a ton of smart devices on 2.4ghz. I wouldn't tolerate needing to reboot even once a month. I'm replacing a trouble free ASUS/TM1900 just for the future and also I have a Quest.
  1. factory reset it
  2. don't use ever use the app, just use an ethernet cable and log in
  3. update the FW
  4. return it
  5. get the same one if you think maybe yours was a lemon
