A lot of banks are starting to follow Chase with their 5 cards every 24 months rule. Maybe you got rejected under this rule?
I was under 5/24 rule both applications. Like i said last time i opened a credit card was like 6 months ago.

Citi stated that i was denied because I have a lot of open accounts, high revolving credit limit, and low credit utilization.

I guess they have new algorithms to flag those who are just opening accounts for the SUB. But I actually intended to keep the citi card.

I guess it's now disadvantageous to pay off your credit card every month and keep old credit cards open.

---

Got the rejection letter from Capital One:

· Based on your credit report from one or more of the agencies on the back of this letter, number of bank cards tradelines opened in the last 24 months

Kinda bs as I only had 3 cards opened in the past 2 years.

I also now read that there is a 6 month rule for Capital One so I probably broke that rule?
Per TPG: Capital One is also known to have a hard-and-fast rule when it comes to timing your applications. You're only able to get approved for one card every six months.

--

Here's my plan of action in case anyone else has the same issue. I'm going to go through and close some of my more recent credit cards that I don't use. Like accounts I have open in the past 3 years. Then reapply for the Citi or Capital One card in a few months.

You might be spot on with your guess. If you have too much available credit, creditors worry about you going ape shit crazy in some mid-life crisis one day and max out all your cards and become a deadbeat. Besides closing some accounts you could opt to reduce the credit significantly on each card to something a tad bit higher you normally use and pay off every month.

No matter whatever card you get from them, Cap One is wasted credit inquiries. They like to pull ALL three bureaus. Most other cards only pull one. Nothing Cap One offers is worth 3 inquires on your reports.

If you have your credit reports frozen and just unfreeze one - data point a friend in Colorado unfroze his TransUnion today and used my referral - he was instantly approved.

But otherwise yes, CapOne pulling an three sucks. Still, have had a half million in signup bonuses over the years. Been happy.

When i got card last year there was one more benefit:

The $200 vacation rental credit is after charging Airbnb, VRBO, and certain hotels.

Anyone know which hotel chain is coded as Airbnb, VRBO etc. gives $200 CR?

I had it triggered on a stay at Marriott and even car rental. Pretty weird.

If I downgrade to a card with cheaper annual fee, do the points still have the same value? For instance I think with chase, the points redeem at a lower value if you have chase freedom vs sapphire reserved.

Shouldn't matter. I don't think Capital one has point redemption bonus like the Chase sapphire preferred and reserved.

Capital one is the pickiest of all issuers for me. I have a 800+ score, 17 active credit cards, all paid off except for one I'm working on the SUB for. was rejected for the Venture X earlier this year.

I think they want to filter out us churners, especially if they detect you won't carry a balance on your cards. Sad!

Why are people so paranoid about credit pull unless you are planning to make big purchases or loan? I had 3 pulls in 2017 when I bought a house then another 3 pulls from cap one.

Not sure about that's the reason. I have 5 credit cards before getting the X. My credit limit is about $120k, and my revolving credit is limited. I tend to pay most of all the time, maybe leave a bit once a while. My X credit limit is $30k

I tried the pre-approval option, but this card didn't show up in the results. Does this imply that if I actually did apply, I would get rejected? I was rejected earlier this year for this card despite perfect credit. The pre-approval doesn't seem to impact credit inquiries, score, etc. That's why I tried that option first.

No, it doesn't. I checked and didn't get pre-approved before I applied, but I got approved for 2 C1 cards (X & Sparks).

Hello,
I was preapproved for some Capital One card with $95 yearly fee and the 75k points. Question: Would property tax to county count as the 4k spend? Does anyone know or tried that?

Yes, it counted when I pay my property taxes with the card. My county charges 2.5% credit card fee though.
