Please don't buy this bike if you plan on actually going on mountains. This bike is not safe for that type of use. No bike that is $125 would be safe on anything other than paved or very smooth dirt roads. Also, the added weight of the suspension is really not worth the virtually non-existent benefits you will get from "suspension" at this price-point. Just some things to consider.

These dept store bikes are great for daily commuting, although probably less so for serious mountain biking. The usual short middle age fat slobs that you see who gatekeep biking and telling people to buy a $2000 bike are annoying as hell. Everyone should be encouraged to bike more. Any bike, is better than having people sit in a car for a 5min drive.

Over time it's more economical to get a better build bike, but not everyone has $750+ to spend.

Poor reviews. You might be able to find a good used bike for the same price.

Don't buy a cheap bike like this with rear suspension. All it does is sap all your energy and does almost nothing to help with actual trail. Then it will break or get worn out within a year. Get a hard tail (front suspension only) or no suspension even if you plan on riding gravel trails.

Here's the other side of buying used bikes... if you don't know and can't differentiate what "parts" the bike has, it's so much safer to buy new. You never know what you're getting and could be much worse and even more unsafe vs already assembled bikes at big box retailers (hard to imagine right?)

With big box retailers, you know what you're getting.. with used, it's a total crapshoot, it might even be stolen...

This doesn't apply to used bikes from retailer stores of course, just some random guy selling on some meet up street corner.

Chiming in as someone who owns a cheap $200 Schwinn and a 1k+ trek bike, this is a good deal. Bike part shortages have caused prices to go up and this is a decent basic bike. Obviously, I wouldn't recommend actually biking on mountains with this, or even long distance trips because of the weight of these but for most people this is honestly just fine and the best you'll get at this price point.

it's nice to see bike prices down again, but I'm curious how they're cutting corners on materials considering everything else is inflated beyond belief. Years ago bikes used to be $100 at walmart and target, and they were even quite cheaply made. Those $100-$200 bikes all but disappeared during the pandemic and now that this is $125 while everything else is 30-75% inflated, it might be safe to assume this is even more cheaply made beyond belief.

The problem with "knowing what you're getting" from a big box retailers is that you know you're getting a bike assembled by someone paid a relatively low wage with no guarantee that they know anything about bikes or how to properly set them up.

Perfect for commuting and foul weather riding, where it can be parked without worry, also winter riding w/o worry about corrosion. Just replace a few parts or the whole thing in a few years. Still saves gas.

Even as a child I've always had mountain bikes, but never used them in any insane incline or real mountainous regions. Think most people like myself use it for park trails and/or neighborhood cycling with the occasional grassy area to pass walking pedestrians.
I think this is true for the majority that buy bikes at target, so I don't see why people always complain in these threads. As for the suspension, back in my day, your suspension was standing up from the seat to protect your junk when you went over rough terrain. laugh out loud

It lasted deep into the 90s/00s. Redline was my brand of choice. We always had some cheap mountain bikes around to thrash too.
