Compared to the Air at $850 it looks like the Pro at this spec level gives you 1 more GPU core (8 vs 7), 3 hours of extra battery life (20 vs 17), touchbar above keyboard, and active cooling so under heavy loads the CPU might not need to lower clock speeds.

Downside is it's slightly thicker and heavier.

In case anyone was curious about the differences. There could be others I missed.

I have returned 8gb version after 1 month of use as it peaked 1 gb of swap memory used regularly after normal usage ( entertainment use, ms office tools, social networking and multiple tabs browsing). Should not be an issue with 1 gb of swap memory used but if you are planning to keep it for 5-7 years, definitely not recommended. Should opt for 16 gb at this point. Another point, don't worry about M2 around the corner. M1 vs M2 does not matter at this point as M2 will bring only slight improvement over M1, both should serve next 5-7 years easily as these chipset are super advanced. Only thing will matter storage capacity and ram as being non upgradable. So choose wisely.

I called in-store and price is still $1249. Maybe I do pick-up or order online. Thanks!

Cool thing about this is the 2nd free year of manufacturer defect that Costco throws in. Makes me not want to get AppleCare, which covers that plus accidental damage.

I don't see why not. I've used it for nine months now and can't be happier with it. My first Apple laptop too. It's silent and runs cool and hardly ever slows down no matter what I throw at it. I do have the 16 GB version though
