You were correct. It was a temporary blip, showing full price on the store page for a few minutes. But, if you actually went to your cart, the discount showed, and it was $0. Now, it's fixed everywhere.

Epic paid for timed exclusivity which may have hurt overall sales and with dlc not included it could be fun for a little while. I've heard the game is good but fairly empty and not as funny as BL2. I still haven't signed up for EGS and I nearly did for GTA:V but I just don't seem to feel the need for and even more endless backlog
