Great, great movie. I was lucky enough to see it in a real theater, when it came out. You really have to crank up the sound in the climactic Pickett's Charge scene, which was partly shot by camera drone IIRC, 30 years ago. Look for Ted Turner among the extras. I've since seen it many times on video. Bravo to the people who made this for letting it run so long as it was a 3 day battle and there's so much to cover, and it treats each day properly. The initial battles, taking of opposing hills and forming of lines, Little Round Top, the Peach Orchard, and finally the ill-fated charge, a massive mistake that basically turned the tide against the south. I wish someone made a similar movie about the battle of Vicksburg, which took place at the same time and was also a huge northern victory.

Great, great movie. I was lucky enough to see it in a real theater, when it came out. After watching a couple of the deleted scenes that are in the Director's Cut/Extended Edition I think I'd rather buy the theatrical release and see it as I'd remembered it from the 90s.

I too was fortunate enough to see it in the theater during it's original run. Still easily one of the best I've seen. There are some movies that are absolutely better on the big screen, and this is one. Watching this on an ipad, or even your 80" home theater just isn't doing it justice.
