I blame stupid policies.
I was just in yesterday, they don't do ANY shipping from stores. They don't even coordinate with 3rd party local shippers like some other stores do. BUT, you can order online and get it shipped wherever *for free*. Granted, online prices are *usually* higher than in-store but not necessarily. Also, they won't officially hold anything, but if you buy it, they'll hold it. [their excuse is..... literally happened to me last weekend - "we don't have the area to hold items" but "oh if you buy it we'll hold it" (in the same nonexistent area)]
It's their fault for setting up dumb polices. Like I said, they will price adjust within 30 days of purchase so if the price goes down they will just refund you the difference @ CS. BUT you can return stuff (depending on what it is) for a very long time, so if you're outside the 30 days you can just buy the item and take it right to CS and return the first-bought (more $$) item. Dumb, but their policy.
Was told they would send it via email. THen I chatted and they said they "ran out."
I'm like, uh, how do you run out of virtual shopcards?! It's like the US government just printing more money... it's endless!
Also, how do you use virtual shop card in store
It's people like you that made them change their electronics return policy and likely in the future other policies and the ridiculous part of it is that you feel entitled to do it because of the profits they make, of which they made $5B not $25++B, but really it's not like you care. They could lose a ton of $ and you would still feel entitled to do something that any reasonable person would know isn't right.
Honestly I hope they close loopholes like this. After all it would lower prices for the rest of us not gaming the system.

I was there a while ago and some lady was returning 2 cases of empty Veuve bottles because "they tasted off" and I was like WTF maybe stop opening them after 3 bottles. Clearly she drank them all and then just returned them. It's sad how many immoral people there are who return stuff to Costco simply because they don't want to pay for it.

I WORK at costco as a refund clerk and I see all kind of ridiculous returns and all of us (refund clerks) don't agree with it and think it should have a limit to returns. I have people return stuff that is 5 years old and is discontinued by the manufacture. Shit like that I don't agree with at all. But when it's like buying stuff online to get it ship to your house and doing the return loophole to get money back on shipping, I don't see it being a big deal. Online have more options that warehouse don't have. So because online has it in stock or a different color or size that the warehouse don't have, i have to pay more for shipping? fark that shit. They still getting the money from the product. Plus they get a discounted rate for shipping from UPS because of an agreement to work with them and they actually charge member/customers a little more than what UPS charge them. We know because we get few things shipped out of the warehouse via UPS for online orders.
