Just be quick with the coating, do not go over it multiple times or you'll get streaking. Quick overlapping passes then walk away, it'll self level even if it looks a little wet
IMO. the results will be much better and the job is SO much quicker and easier if you use a drill.
I used the 3M clear coat packet about this time last year on a 10 year-old Honda that sits in the California sun during the day. My headlights are still clear, so those little clear coat wipes actually work.
Previously, I used to spray the polished headlights with a can of Krylon Fusion for plastic clear coat for protection. That would last about 2 years but it's more hassle.
Solid deal. I really like the sanding block that comes in this package. But unfortunately I didn't have the same experience as you. My headlights turned out hazy after the final step. The best headlight kit I've used is the blue Meguiars kit.

I just used this last week on my car to clean up the headlights before the yearly inspection, car is 11 years old now and headlights have never been polished before so they were pretty bad. It's a fairly quick process maybe 10-15 minutes total, lots of elbow grease though and I was getting attacked by bugs so I rushed a bit, they look "good enough", but they have a bit of a "milky" look, definitely not crystal clear. Produced a night and day difference though, good if you want just a quick job without breaking out power tools.
I used this on my 2004 Sienna last month. The headlights look brand new. I think I paid this much from Amazon. I was meticulous, taped off the body parts next to the headlight as well. Took about an hour to get through it, but the results were pretty great on a van that sits outside everyday. Big thing is having a spray battle with water to keep the surface wet the whole time while sanding. Worked well for me.

3M does make quality products and Project Farm [youtube.com] also agrees.
Meanwhile, for the OP and although higher priced, Amazon [amazon.com] has over 13,000 reviews that one can peruse.
