Why is everyone assuming that "feature" means the vehicle has to stay running? More likely designed to add access to additional space/storage to a vehicle that is turned off..
"Can be attached to SUV/ mini-van"? Judging by the design, you mean like on a roof?
Most likely just a shroud that covers the tailgate of the vehicle. When it works, it's pretty amazing. Periodic heat/AC as needed, and a ton more sleeping space and gear storage using the vehicle.
But I've never seen a "regular" tent attempt this feat.

Call me crazy, but attaching this thing to an SUV, like a Ford Edge, would just funnel the exhaust right into the tent? Carbon monoxide poisoning anyone? I have No idea why anywone would want to have this hooked up to an SUV for that reason alone. I get the idea of cooling down, but your AC ain't gonna run unless the car is running, and a plethora of exhaust lingering around
Lol, depends on the setup — some of them truly have a sealed baffle around the outside, so thats less of a concern. Unless you're at Kevorkian State Park, in which case it's a feature.

Click the link and look at the photos. It has a shroud that goes over the rear end of an SUV that basically adds access to the tailgate area, where you could have an air mattress or additional storage.
