I bought this a year ago and it is trash. The electric spinners would throw the cars off the track. In order to propel the cars forward, you need find a very delicate balance of smashing the button so it doesn't push them off the track but with enough force to move them to the spinner section. I brought it back to the store where they said people return this specific set all the time for the same reason. There are some great Mario Kart sets, but this one is a dud.

Thank you sir! My kids are 5 and 3 and you helped me avoid a headache. Nothing worse than letting your kids play and get some time to catch-up on things and then the kids get upset and come nagging to you that it doesn't work and they can't get it. Even if you patiently show them they don't quite get the concept you described at this age.

Got this as a gift for xmas and had the same experience but without returning it. Now it sits in pieces in the closet.
Got this for our then 5 year old son Christmas 2020. He played with it 3 times but it didn't work well so it sat in the closet until we dropped it off at Goodwill. $50 waste of money.

Ours had seen a fair amount of use (more than the newer mario kart rainbow one) but it is truly unwieldly, even when mostly broken down. You've gotta either meticulously disassemble everything to get the size down, or partially disassemble and toss in one of those large rubbermaid totes.

I found this one unplayable. I even started to take averages on how many times the car could make it around the track twice without falling off. I got rainbow road after returning this one and my kid was much more engaged with straight start-to-finish races versus fighting with keeping the cars on the track.

Any way to modify the motors to make it work better?

I bought it for my kids about a year ago and it works better than that, however I agree it's a dud, here's why: 1) it's impossible to take apart once it's together, 2) when racing with two cars only one can get enough speed to get the full lap, 3) the carts are somewhat fragile enough that my 3 years old likes to pry pieces off it like heads and mufflers, 4) it's super noisy when turned on, 5) it uses D batteries (I mean what is this, 1980?)
