Let me guess - one of the reasons they have to discount these is because most of the people who bought a PS5 console are broke after getting screwed from scalpers, or there's still a bunch of consoles still stuck with scalpers (thereby, consoles aren't in the hands of customers who would then go out to buy accessories) ? Going on almost 2 years later and I still can't get my hands on a PS5 from a big-box.

The only reason I got mine is Target restocked at about 415am a couple months back and, being the night owl I am, I was able to get it lol

Got both the Xbox Series X and PS5 at launch, from big box, but my wife and I checked every day (sometimes several times). I have little doubt you can get one from big box if you're willing to work for it and want one that badly - there have been plenty restocks over the last 1.5 years.
If you're expecting to casually mosey into a store and pick one up like a bunch of grapes, yeah, probably going home empty handed. Supply chain and manufacturing issues can affect the world but they had better not inconvenience you.

If you follow any restock threads like Twitter or even Slickdeals you should have no problem getting one. I got mine two Februarys ago pretty easily. The true downside is that Sony has cut corners internally on the new one giving a lesser quality PS5 to new purchasers.
