I would think this might be a decent deal for someone who just wants to check emails and surf the web. The question I have is whether this would be reliable and last a while? Any comments?

Trying to figure out what makes this such a waste of $$$. Is it because the processor is a generation old? What else is bad about this laptop?

I disagree. $339 is a good deal. This is a 4 core, 8 thread processor. The ram is expandable, 17" 1920x1080 screen, and an SSD (A small one, but easy to change). It's not a gaming machine, but fantastic for regular use. The only downside is it's not wifi6, but that only costs about $15 to fix. Normally, being refurbished would be a downside, but this includes a 2 year warranty.

The processor is fine and benchmarks put it faster than a desktop i7-7700k, which is absolutely more than enough for anyone not doing scientific or rendering work. The only issue is the battery, which is not easily available to replace in a few years. HP consumer (non-business) laptops do not allow limiting charge to 80% so it will wear out in a couple years and no real way to replace it with an OEM battery.

It's got 100%sRGB according to the description, which makes me want to buy it. But it sounds like it's got lost, laggy bluetooth audio.

I strongly agree with those saying this has its place. Think of the grandma without the best vision who pays bills, browses Facebook, writes letters, etc.

This is perfect.

It's nice to see that the manufacturers are finally giving up on putting spinners in the low-end laptops. It just makes them SOOO slow that it's not worth the bad reputation it causes.
