My friend had one of these. He said it works fine, but it's very small, and you have to put it in a chest freezer, the freezer on your fridge won't be cold enough.

Usually the option for this sort of thing is the 1.5Q Cusinart stand alone. So 2Q. 2/3 the cupboard space, and not another appliance. If I didn't already have the Cuisinart I'd get one. But I never use that either.

Freezers on refrigerators keep food at 0°F - same as a chest freezer. Sounds like he needs a new fridge.

I had a. manual (hand crank) version of this years ago. It's basically a round ice pack. You'll use it twice then donate it or give it away to me someone you don't particularly care about.

I have made some good ice cream with this attachment. Note that it takes some time (15 minutes or more) and that the ice cream will be soft-serve once churned and will need additional freezer time to be a proper ice cream texture.
