Menards is advertising this Performax 285 pc mechanics tools set for $99 after rebate in store and in their weekly ad. if you check the product page it shows on sale for $84.03 and $74.79 after mail in rebate. I'm labeling this in store only because Menards charges shipping and picking fees if you order online for store pickup.

I confirmed it rang up for that price in store this morning. Seems like a Good spare kit to leave in the car for emergencies. No tears if it's stolen. Hope this helps someone!

I guess if you only have exactly $84.03 this is okay, but if you can wait for a sale and spend $99 instead, the comparably sized Husky set at Home Depot is much better quality, and at least in my area trying to warranty tools at Menards is always a huge hassle compared to the quick and easy ones at Home Depot.
(I've had Menards refuse to warranty a lifetime warranty product because I didn't have the original paper receipt over a year after the purchase...because the mail in rebate required that I mail in the original paper receipt.)

The ratchets in this Performax set look particularly trashy. I'd stay away for all but the lightest use.

I'm not sure what rebate you were doing, but none of their current rebates (for as long as I can remember) require that you mail in the purchase receipt.

They also have kiosk at customer service that allows you to print out a new receipt (if you paid with a credit card).

Yeah, wrong info on the rebate issue, there is a printed rebate receipt that prints with the receipt that is used for mailing rebates in.

There's a rebate called a price adjustment if you buy something the week before the 11% rebate sale starts, you have to ask for it at the service desk, and yes, it requires you to mail the original paper receipt, since there is no rebate receipt at the bottom.

I'll back this up as I have used it before, and it does call for the entire receipt. I admit I completely forgot about it as an option.

I'm curious, what tool brand did they give you a hard time with the life time warranty? I roll rebates, so if it's master force I'm going to be probably screwed in the future. I don't think they will be able to lookup receipts for purchases paid with a rebate only. Regardless sounds like I should take a pic of every menards receipt with a lifetime warranty item on it.

It was indeed Master Force. My other concern with these tools is it doesn't look like they're each clearly labelled as Performax so they might be even more reluctant to warranty them. Not to mention they don't sell individual performax sockets or wrenches at my store and I doubt they will want to break up a whole set to warranty a single piece.

Ah, forgot about that one since they practically always have the 11% going on these past years.

For others reading, the above is a pretty unusual case and if you do buy this and do the normal 11% rebate, you get to keep the receipt.

I'll find out I guess. To be fair I have heard the same thing about HD and Husky. It was in one of the like 1,000 piece sets posted on here. They claimed they bought it, had one bad piece out the box, took it in, and the HD rep said they needed the receipt (no problem in this case) and that they needed the rest of the set brought in. Maybe they were going for a exchange instead of warranty, but it was also discouraging.

For those reasons I just consider the lifetime tool warranty a ymmv thing. I was just personally looking for a set to leave in the trunk for emergencies. I think the best one is the HFT Pittsburg about 200 piece set because it's flat packed better and has the better ratchets. I'd pay a little more for that over the husky at $99, but I did not want to spend that much on a trunk set. This for me is right under $75, so a 25% discount hit the spot for me to pull the trigger.
