I use this when I am metal detecting and it helps dig and cut roots - especially grass where coins usually are.
Great tool and super strong. Surprisingly good quality.

Would he recommend this for a Poo knife. Use it to. Cut the turds that will not flush. Currently I have a old rusty knife from Outback steakhouse.

Seems there's a newer model with a hard plastic sheath. Anybody have any experience with that model instead?

These a great tools, I have an old used one. Wish they had a crossguard to increase blade control and decrease the chance of injury. Seems like an obvious addition.

I can't find mine and need to repurchase so thanks! This is my hands down favorite gardening tool. It is the best for digging or cutting through weeds, and no knife can compete with one of these Smilie

An Opinel garden or mushroom knife would be a better product in this price range.
An Opinel mushroom knife is double the price of this one, and isn't made for weeding…

Hori-Hori made a blood oath to never make a sword again. Did someone mention Bill? How is this possible?

Without a link to this '$4 kitchen knife,' the 7" concave blade on the OP's hefty tool is better suited for digging ---gardening, metal detecting, yard weed removal. etc., than say, buttering bread.

For $16 delivered, the OP tool manufactured in Japan with decent SS for prevention of corrosion is a thumbs up. Oil the wood handle and it should last a long time. Spend more money and you can get one with a 3 rivet full tang blade, better sheath, sharpener, blade guard that helps protect hand slippage with dry/hard soils, etc. Personally, I could care less about a sheath for other than storage, but some survivalists prefer the concave blade for digging edibles, herbs and such.

Good backup for when the Lin Kuei comes along, murders your family, and you end up in the Netherrealm.

Got this last time. Craftsmanship looks good however it's use is limited to soft top soil in planters for me. Weeding anywhere else like the lawn there are more precision tools so you don't tear up the lawn. The lack of a guard, size of blade, and low grip make it a dangerous tool to do any digging with on harder soil. It struggled on my blended quick draining xeriscape soil.

Could you suggest one that is made in Japan? I am only finding Chinese made ones on Amazon. I prefer the quality of Japanese steel.

Scroll down and the OP Nisaku is stamped 'Japan' on the blade. The faux leather sheath is also stamped 'made in Japan.'

We are not talking high carbon, special proprietary blends of knife/sword steel, but rather 404 SS that is manufactured to be durable and not rust. In my opinion, the concave OP is more of a tool than a knife designed/used for offense/defense.

PS: If you were asking about something with a guard [amazon.com], etc. most, if not all of the Nisaku [amazon.com] tools are made in Japan. Just check the blade and it will be stamped.

Bought this last deal ago, worked great cutting open 80 bags of mulch and digging up some weeds in between.
