I attribute those rumors to FUD. It would be crazy to drop support for a product line with literally millions of devices in use. But even if that were to happen, I run all of my Kasa devices (I currently have 26 in use) in pure local mode with Home Assistant, so would be unaffected by a cloud server shutdown. I'm good "for life" or at least so long as 2.4GHz Wi-Fi is a thing (presumably forever). Hell, I'm still using X-10 home automation devices from the 80's. All of this tech will certainly outlive me.

BTW, this is a great deal on great devices. I bought 2 more at this price (2 different Amazon accounts). Thx Op for the pointer!

How do you run locally? Can I run it locally using Smartthings?

Smart things can link to the kasa app and then yes it can control it

Not sure if you can do it with smart things completely locally though
