This is a surprisingly great saw considering the price (often $250 at Lowe's). Large cut depth compared to other jobsite saws. I expected the legs to be spindly and wobbly. Quite the opposite. It was the most sturdy of all the portable saws I tested (Skil 6307, Dewalt 749, Metabo HPT C10, Ridgid 4514, Bosch 4100). Unfortunately the Skilsaw 99 never showed up so it wasn't included in the test. The fence system is on par with the other rack and pinion systems. Trunion adjustment is the easiest of all the saws I tested. Table surface was the flattest of them all as well. The slot in the top of the fence makes adding a stop easy peasy, or even adding a multi-track overlay.

In the cons category, the throat plate is much more flexible than I'm comfortable with. The miter gauge is definitely not excellent (the Dewalt miter gauge is an absolute joke and isn't suitable for a child's toy; the Metabo HPT miter gauge is hands down the best of the lot). Other than those two issues, no other complaints with this little Skil. Oh, and it's quite a bit lighter than the other saws making it a breeze to fold up and move around. Even my mother was able to lift it into my truck.

I wound up ordering Dewalt saws, but after using them for a couple months I honestly wish I had just gone with this little skil (or the Metabo HPT?). For more than twice the price, the Dewalt definitely does not deliver more than twice the functionality.

I was evaluating the saws for a multiple quantity purchase, not writing any kind of review for publication. It turned out to be a bad spend on the Dewalt saws anyway. I've put another $300 into each saw to get decent results; miter gauge, zero clearance plates, sled and blades for each saw increased the total per saw by another 50%. 😠

Picked this up late February/Early March when it was on sale for this price. Great starter saw with lots of good features, most annoying thing is no zero-clearance insert made for it, and if you make your own there's a weird notch you'll have to cut out of part of it for it to sit flat. Other than that, has felt great bang for the buck.

You tested all 6 of these saws? These are pretty detailed findings for a rando, did you actually end up writing a full review I could read somewhere?

Great saw, love the rack and pinion fence. An affordable alternative for those who can't justify the full price of a Dewalt

The rack and pinion plus the material support flip flopper thing built into the fence makes this look like a recycled Dewalt. I guess you copy what works and improve on the things that don't. Adapt or die.

The lack of a rack and pinion on my saw makes me want to throw it in the trash. I spend longer making the fence parallel with the blade than I do cutting things on it.

Great find! Thanks OP. I wish Lowes didn't use FedEx for shipping otherwise I'd go with them over Amazon. Oh well...

Don't hesitate to upgrade if you can. Got rid of my rigid saw recently for the dewalt with rack and pinion and my production (cutting boards) has tripled.

How often would you say these are $250 at Lowes? I've only seen one slickdeal at that price and I'm not sure it will be that price again anytime soon at least.

What was the extra effort involved in making the zero clearance throat plate? Would be helpful for me (and others) to know.

Over the last maybe 2ish years I've seen it at Lowes for $250 about 5 or 6 times. Lowes and Amz last offered it for $250 around Black Friday. Not since then that I'm aware.

I bought this saw from Acme last December and it is a very nice saw! Used it yesterday to rip some plywood for my camper roof replacement. It is VERY loud, but very powerful!
