I rented this lens for a Yellowstone trip last year. It's amazing but tiring to hand carry. If i had more occasion to use it I'd buy it for sure. Crazy to get so much lens for this price.

i've been very happy with the Tamron 70-200 2.8 G2.

I prefer Nikon lenses cause my Sigma lenses tend to mis focus, but that might have been my D7000's fault. With the D7500 they're both more reliable.
Nikon has better edge to edge sharpness as well.

Only other thing to add to the comparison is the consistent aperture across the entire zoom range with the Nikon - won't matter in a lot of situations and if you're regularly using this lens and experienced, it will be trivial to plan ahead so it's a non-issue. But, less convenient if you're say, on Manual and tracking something moving and you're at 5.6, then decide to zoom in and suddenly you get bumped to 6.3 and you've got the wrong exposure.
Although the tamron has 5 aperture at the short end of the zoom range, so better performance there.
Other thing to note here though is that while there's not an identical Nikon lens, you really don't get a cost savings. This lens is $1400 on BH Photo Video right now which means it's equal to MSRP for the Nikon lens. Although again, you get that 100mm worth of reach.
I'm not into birds so I rarely need 500mm.
I imagine this is similarly great

Was completely satisfied with the 200-500 which I bought after rejecting the Tamron. I now shoot with a 300mm f2.8 which and the 200-500 isn't nearly as good but, at the price range, there's nothing better.
