I could be wrong, but it seems that this unit was sold as a wrongly advertised 70 pint and recalled. Just ordered one, I will take a chance with easy returns.

Now on my second and much more expensive Frigidaire 70 pint that appears to be discontinued (only seeing 50 pint versions that look identical), perhaps the same issue with overrated. In fact, Walmart has the refurbished Frigidaire 70 pint [walmart.com] for $148.79. Our issue with the Frigidaire is that it produces a lot of noise from the fan and consumes a lot of electric. You can move it and the noise will go away, but then comes back. Perhaps I need to take it apart and see what the issue is, but even new, it consumed a lot of electric... may as well be running an air conditioner.

From my experience, if it runs for 30 days, you are typically good to go... The far majority of issues happen in the first few days. I did not pay attention on checkout, but they usually offer an extended warranty that is based on purchase price. For this, it would be reasonably cheap.... but they are only going to pay out the maximum you paid for it.

That is not terrible.... Not positive, but I think you have 30 days to purchase the extended warranty plan.

From past experience with some RC trucks/cars for kids, they will repair or replace up to the purchase price, or refund what you paid. That was almost a no-brainer with those type of toys.

I'm seeing $23.24 for a 3 year plan. I've been lucky to get 2-3 seasons out of a dehumidifier, so this may be worth it.

I've had my GE dehumidifier (with pump) working 24/7 for over 3.5 years now -- we have a large crawlspace and an unfinished area where the washer/dryer are. It wasn't cheap when I bought it, maybe about $230-240, but it's been a champ. I bought a 2nd one, also for the basement, which is also a GE but doesn't have the pump because I keep the door shut between the unfinished and finished areas.

Wow, that's great! I've had 4 die since 2014. The first was a Keystone which lasted a year and just out of warranty. 3 were Frigidaire, one past warranty but the other 2 were replaced under warranty and still working. I got this Midea with the 3 year extended warranty. I'll store one of my other units and use this for the next 3 years or so. The price is hard to beat!

I have two of these since over a year ago, they work amazing. Just moved and took one with me, glad I did because the sewer was never connected so my toilet overflowed and having a dehumidifier was invaluable at 1 AM on a Saturday.

The water remediation company was surprised how much work one of these could do. I had basically done their job by the time they got there with the industrial sized one.

Dehumidification..... And yes it blows hot air, it uses a refrigerant compressor to get the evaporator coil very cold so that water forms and condenses on the very cold fins of the coil and then drips into the bucket.

In for one as a 3rd backup. No matter the brand these never seem to last more than two or three years in my home. I do run them basically constantly.

I thought it was just me, but dehumidifiers do not last as long as they did. We run one 24/7 for about 10 months of the year in basement that drains into sump. The first Frigidaire lasted about 10 years and since, 2 to 4 years is about it. Perhaps the 3 year plan is worth it, but I have not read the fine print in awhile. One of my credit cards supposedly doubles the factory warranty, but I have never used it.

A dehumidifier does what the name indicates.... it lowers the humidity level to whatever percent you set. The compressor produces heat that you feel in the exhaust, or the condensing coil and air ducts would freeze up with moisture. The better versions will have an automatic defrost or fan only mode that cycles. In a perfect world, the cold from the condenser would equalize with the heat produced from the compressor for a net 0 change in the room temperature.

Air conditioning does similar, but exhausts outside, or is outside. In humid climates, it cannot keep up with basements and such. Folks that live in arid climates, such as the SW, use swamp coolers to add moisture while cooling the air blowing across water. Not as nice as central air, it helps a lot with the dryness. I go back and forth from the humid Midwest to the arid SW and people that have never lived elsewhere, do not readily relate to the contrasting requirements.... one is removing humidity and the other is adding.
