Need an amp for this right? I know nothing about amps but what would be a budget one that would work for this?

There are a lot of options. What you want depends on how you plan on using them. If you want something portable to use with a smartphone or portable audio device, this could work (I don't have one and am not necessarily recommending it, it's just an option but one that is generally liked): FiiO Headphone Amps Portable DAC USB Type-C coaxial 384kHz/32bit (E10K-TC Black) https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B098TKMNKG

You mainly want an amp that specifically covers the 250 ohm impedance. That's not strictly necessary but strongly recommended. The headphones should be okay without a separate amp with most modern devices but are certainly improved with something.

In for 1 to add these to my collection at this price.

From what I've been reading, the reasons to get this are they're very comfortable and sound great for price especially at this price. A little more bass than Sennheisers in general, maybe a bit brighter on the treble response.

I've had these for 10 years now, going strong. Replaced the earpads a year or two ago finally.

I agree. At this price it mat be worth practicing my soldering skills. There are a lot of detachable cable mods of this headphone online.

I've been using the Philips SHP9500 for 7 or so years now. Does anyone have experience with both those and these Beyers? Just curious how they compare.

I own SHP-9500S, in comparison to DT770 Pro all the reviews say DT990 Pro has slightly more treble and bass with wider soundstage. I bought the DT770 Pro 250 ohm last time the deal came around here. Really tempted to get these to see the soundstage. The only thing I did not like about the DT770 Pro is that for long sessions the clamping force on the head is a bit tighter. I liked the SHP-9500S clamping force better because for long sessions it doesn't give you a headache.

RTINGS says the DT990 Pro has slightly more clamping force but not by much. Sound quality-wise, I much prefer DT770 Pro over SHP-9500S as IMO the DT770 is on another level over the Phillips.

Might be in for one DT990 Pro, the price is too good to pass up.

I have these also. Such a great budget pair which I bought for 60. Also tempted to try these ones tho.

If the motherboard is decently newish, yes. I do that myself and the built in amp on the motherboard handles these headphones well even though they are 250ohms. When I plug them in the audio driver sets the level to extreme and drivers them well. Smilie

Depends on your ears. I am blessed with not so good ears; so perfectly happy when use this with LG V20 which can handle 250 Ohm or "ADV. Accessport Lite USB-C gen 2" for my other devices.

Man after at least 6 years I finally snagged these! Would a S22 Ultra 5G power these sufficiently? I'm guessing no. I've been on the wireless bandwagon for so long that I'm a little nonplussed at having to be impeded with a cord and have to buy an amp but too intrigued for too long not to take the leap. Any of my SD audiophiles have any advice for me? Thank you kindly in advance

Are these the "best" beyers for the money? Better than the 880, 880 pro, 900 pro x, etc.?

Edit: Ok, I found this on their site about the 880 pros.

Quote :
DT 880 PRO and DT 990 PRO do differ in design and sound.

The DT 880 PRO sounds more natural and has less colour sound.

DT 990 PRO amplifies both bass and treble frequencies to enhace the sound.
------------

Here are the specs for the 990 Pro.

Operating principle: Open
Transmission Type: Wired
Nominal impedance headphones: 250 ohms
weight headphones without cable: 250 g
Headphone frequency response: 5 - 35.000 Hz
Nominal sound pressure level: 96 dB
Sound coupling to the ear: Circumaural (around the ear)
