This machine will stop working for no reason..and then maybe restart a few days later. Utterly unexplainable. Have 20 amp cord as well.
Sunjoe IS good with warranty exchange as long as you kept original box, however. Second unit is good so far.
As for the unit itself, I have used it for two seasons now. I have 4900 sq ft of grass, and this takes me about two hours to do everything. I have to do a minimum of two passes to get a decent amount of thatch out, but the amount it gets out is so satisfying, I do not mind. I dont use the bag, which is as useless as the back seats of a 90s integra coupe hatchback, lol.
Scarifying blade is good for making deep grooves which help ground retain seeds during overseeding (not as good as a core aerator, but I digress).
This dethatcher has helped my lawn ALOT. Not hyperbole. It took me six years to go from a sad lawn filled with weeds to almost-turf (grubs are still an issue). I dethatched with this, scarified with this, used liquid aerator, overseeded, and then fertilized. My lawn this spring is hilariously nice. I had literally TWO small dandelions total, compared to hundreds in the past. There is still clover, however.
As for Sunjoe vs Greenworks, I will say this. I own a few sunjoe items (dethatcher, pressure washer, and a hose), and many greenworks items (mower, blower, string trimmer, hedge trimmer, snow thrower). All three sunjoe items failed and were warrantied (the hose was too late). All greenworks items have worked since day one without issue (except for batteries, and the snow thrower had a weird chute issue which was fixed for free locally). Sunjoe asked for items back (very hard if you got rid of box two years ago), Greenworks does not.
My vote goes to Greenworks for quality and customer service.
(However, in terms of this particular item, the sunjoe gives you scarifying blade, greenworks does not)
10k isn't particularly large (considering fertilizer is sold for 5k and 15k lawns), just perhaps larger than what people growing up/living in the city or well-planned burbs might be used to, but that's not where I live. This isn't some flex. Just a statement into the void. I find that the generally helpful SD community usually weighs in on statements like that, either recommending this product, a different one, or a cost benefit analysis of hiring lawn service. Maybe someone will post something, maybe they won't.

Very good price for this unit, usually the refurbs sell for this. This model is likely being discontinued for the newer AJ798E, but I've had the 801 and it was great. I returned it due to the height adjustment moving on its own, which seems a common problem with the 801 model, so just something to keep an eye on. I've been debating whether to try another 801 or go with the 798. Guess I better choose fast at this price.
I paid $128 shipped. In April. Great price for this unit. Yes extension cords are annoying, but the couple of times a year you will use this, not the end of the world.
