Was tempted to buy when this dropped to $199 a couple of months ago but have been waiting, thinking it would drop more as the Platinum Gen 4 started to ship. Believe $180 may be close to the lowest price we may see as Gold Gen 3 inventory is cleared out. My LG Gram only supports Gen 3 so no need to buy Gen 4 except for future proofing. But, the real draw here is the power efficiency making this one of the best available options for laptops.

Gen4 speeds seem nice, but the amount of heat that those drives produce doesn't seem to make them worth it though. The Gen4 of this drive was showing nearly 2x temps compared to Gen3. When it comes to laptops, the Gen3 is the better way to go.
I have this drive, I bought it when the price went down to $200. Definitely worth it at this price. Haven't had any issues at all.

The key consideration is intended use. If you just need bulk storage and installing in desktop, then I would shop around for other solutions and save $10-15. If you are wanting to upgrade a laptop, then the SK Hynix Gold SSD continues to be one of the very best SSD's available. In addition to the power efficiency, all Gold P series are single side which is important (perhaps mandatory) with many laptops.
I have a LG gram already. Is this better than the drive that comes with it? Will I get more battery life from this drive?
