Steep and Cheap is essentially just Backcountry.com with no free shipping. Sometimes one is cheaper than the other depending on how the shipping costs workout.
Either way, I'm not a fan of Backcountry after they sued the crap out of anyone and everyone for using the extremely generic term "backcountry". Bunch of shady dicks. https://gearjunkie.com/news/backc...t-lawsuits
If the item you want is available, Scheels.com/ should price match via email. They're employee owned, have a great return policy, and aren't dicks.
If you aren't a fan of Scheels for whatever reason, Enwild (who used to be called Backcountry Edge until the lawsuits started) will also price match. https://www.enwild.com/price-match
They weren't "defending" anything. They were using the threat of extended legal battles to bully smaller companies, in an attempt to get a stranglehold on a very common term.
Several of the companies involved were small mom-and-pop stores, some of which were using the word "Backcountry" before Backcountry.com even existed. These guys blow.
Backcountry doesn't offer free returns. It will be $6.99 for return shipping.

Good deal if you want this backpack. I purchased two sirrus/stratos packs for my kids about a week ago and paid a few more bucks than this. It's closeout of the old style frame. The new style frame is very different and substantially larger (especially taller). So if you know you fit the old style, you may not fit the new style. I personally can't stand a tall frame. I like to be able to tilt my head up without hitting the top frame. The old frame allows you to do this and the new frame may not unless you have a long enough torso. The ventilated back is great. The 36L seems small than other 36L packs. I'm sure it really is 36L but it's a little tougher to squeeze the stuff in than others I played with.

Why get upset at a company defending their intellectual property??

People crap on backcountry but they owned up to the mistake and made amends.
Scheels or whatever doesn't offer free returns. You'll be on the hook for shipping.
No they didn't. They got caught flat footed because they figured they could do whatever they want, and when they faced backlash they went on an PR apology tour to save face.
Deal or not, F this company

Used to shop at SaC all the time, got my Aether 70 (2008) and Manta 24 (2010) from them over a decade ago, when they were still had good deals. The "deals" aren't always very good, they just post manufacturer sales as their own like the last Darn Tough sock sale for example. Sometimes the same item is cheaper at Backcountry. They can't get their categories straight (Womens items show up in Mens all the time), no Android app and customer service is abysmal. There are plenty of other retailers that have free shipping and are clearing out the same items/sales.
Osprey's warranty is great as well. I wore out a bungee and lost a buckle, filled out the form and it they mailed me replacements in a week.
Yes, hizzledizzle is correct, SaC is Backcountry's outlet/dumping ground and they suck as much as WWP suing everyone that had a soldier/sailor/airman/police in silhouette for a logo.
