For those planning on adding ram, maybe consider the 5825u model. About $150 more, but you get a better cpu, and it comes with 16gb of ram.

Review in short:

1. Feels cheap (plastic all around)
2. Keyboard is okay... the base is flimsy but types perfectly fine for me (no backlit)
3. Screen looks good to me. I didn't expect much but no issues with the contrast or sharpness or color for me. I'm only doing basic web browsing, occasional streaming, and just random work stuff so I really don't need that much from the display. Will add that the 120 hz is nice. It's definitely fast for a laptop and definitely helps with performance.
4. It's fast, especially after I upgraded to 16 gb. If it slows down, I'll just upgrade to 24 gb then 32 gb but this will probably be years down. The CPU is nice and good. Refreshed I guess but it's great. I have to get used to Windows 11 but it runs this with no issues.
5. Sound initially was meh (I don't care much about it) but when I started watching some Netflix, it wasn't half bad.
6. Wifi is fine for me. It isn't slow or anything. Again, not doing hardcore streaming or downloading or anything.
7. Haven't tested it with games yet but probably not gonna be playing anything crazy on this.. I have my desktop for that.
8. Doesn't really get hot... fan runs a little bit then it dies down after a few minutes.. pretty normal and doesn't seem to run >50% for me. This will be dependent on what you do but this is why I'm a big AMD fan... less energy = less heat so theoretically, this laptop should work well.

All in all, pretty great budget laptop. Again, was trying to aim for sub-$400 with best value. To me, that was the CPU, m.2 512gb, and size (15.6"). Easy to upgrade RAM for $33. And relatively light and mobile around the house. Just hoping no issues down the road (given it's dell) but will just deal with that. If I can get a good 5 years use of this for sub-$400, I'm good.

The specs is right, they just use the old render of the previous intel version. Note that the USB-C is data only like those amazon adapters, and the HDMI can output more than rated specs, up to 4K 60hz. Here's a review of it [thehikaku.net]

Not true. LG trademarked an IPS logo with 3 bars proceeding the letters. Samsung also has an IPS logo trademarked. Hitachi invented IPS panels and the name (In-Plane Switching), and the name "IPS" was never trademarked. Dell sometimes changes suppliers and panels for their laptops (especially the cheaper ones), depending on what's cheapest at the time. Saying it's WVA is just a way to save their ass by not saying what type of panel it is. Dell has labeled IPS, VA, and higher quality TN panels as WVA. TN panels should never be labeled that, though, since they have the narrowest viewing angles of any modern LCD. They do it anyways since there's no regulation on what can be called WVA.

For sure for sure. I was on the same boat but I ultimately decided I didn't need backlit keyboard. I would look into the 5000s series in that case. Again I was definitely aiming for best budget for the money with this laptop. I know the cons are keyboard, wifi card, 8gb ram and maybe even battery/weight but the pros for the money made sense for me

Bought it for similar price along with using cb site which offered 15% cb. The cash back is yet to be processed. Also upgraded with 8gb Samsung branded ram for another $30. Not a bad deal at all.

IPS indicates "In-Plane Switching", a display technology and technique, which is not a brand name.

I think the point people were trying to make is IPS is a technology, not a "brand name".

The point I was trying to make is that not every manufacturer uses those 3 specific letters in that order to specify a wide viewing angle type panel, even though it might work exactly the same way.

A patent for the basic idea of the advantageous molecular arrangement in an LCD screen somewhat similar to a modern IPS was filed by Merck, not IPS technology itself, nor did they call it IPS. That's beyond the point I was trying to make, that the name "IPS" isn't designated to just LG's panels, and what type of panel you'll get in some of these cheap Dells is a crap-shoot.
