I did a quick research--how does 2021R-05F affect AR pistols? In a quick search, I found no mentions of brace. I'd appreciate some insight. Thanks.

Beginning August 2022, the BATFE will effectively eliminate this exemption by classifying AR pistols with such stabilizing braces as "short-barreled rifles," rendering them illegal to possess without an NFA tax stamp.

This is the federal docket for 2021R-05F:

https://www.federalregister.gov/d...f-firearms

There are exactly zero mentions of the word "brace".

This docket involves the following:

"The Department of Justice ("Department") is amending Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives ("ATF") regulations to remove and replace the regulatory definitions of "firearm frame or receiver" and "frame or receiver" because the current regulations fail to capture the full meaning of those terms.

The Department is also amending ATF's definitions of "firearm" and "gunsmith" to clarify the meaning of those terms, and to provide definitions of terms such as "complete weapon," "complete muffler or silencer device," "multi-piece frame or receiver," "privately made firearm," and "readily" for purposes of clarity given advancements in firearms technology.

Further, the Department is amending ATF's regulations on marking and recordkeeping that are necessary to implement these new or amended definitions."

That is all. Please provide any evidence that deals with pistol braces.

This is why I am puzzled. I saw nothing that would related to a brace or affect the status of a pistol.

A quick internet search for "are pistol braces illegal now 2022" brings up multiple gun related websites saying "yes because the ATF is classifying them as SBR's" but I didn't see any official announcement. Could just be speculation and/or fear mongering. I'm not sure either way.

Unfortunately, it's real.

The correct docket is 2021R-08: Factoring Criteria for Firearms With Attached "Stabilizing Braces"

https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2021/06/10/2021-12176/factoring-criteria-for-firearms-with... [federalregister.gov]

They've come up with a point system for ranking various design features that includes not only stabilizing braces, but also the type of sights you use, eye relief of red dots, the pistols weight, etc, and have prevented the ability to put ANYTHING on the handguard.

The braces I posted this deal for would not meet the requirements to be used on a pistol build.
(but an SB Mini would!)

Sorry all, I was not aware of this when I posted this deal.

There goes my plans of building a 7.62x39 AR pistol with my SBA4.

Wow... The page title starts with "Proposed rules... for 2021R-08". Do we know what the *final* 2021R-08, if there is one, that will be in effect in August? Or, am I missing something?

Find out how your senator and house representative is voting and call them if the plan to vote for the unconstitutional regulations. "… the right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."

The ATF has flip flopped on this so many times over the last 10 years that it wouldn't surprise me if opinions change again and other regulations may or may not go in place.

Fortunately, a Form 1 isn't taking over a year anymore. So just go get your stamp and not worry about it.
