There is no mention on the box that the IFIT membership is REQUIRED in order to be able to use the console. The console/ monitor is locked without the membership. So once the free membership is over you will have to continue to pay for a yearly/ monthly membership even to be able to use the most basic/ manual functions on the rower. Had I known that after the free year i would have to pay ~$400 yearly I probably not spent the ~400 on it

"There is confusion about the ability to use this in manual mode without paying for an IFit membership. It does come with a free one year membership which may be very helpful. I haven't tried it yet. There are many red stop sign labels in the packaging stating that the consul is locked till you register it but that is Not the case. You can in fact use the rower in manual mode without registration and payment for a membership. I have done it. Initial I held down the blue IFit/sync button til it beeped. Since then I just sit down and start rowing. The monitor comes on in manual mode. The instruction booklet tells you how to change modes and add a heart rate monitor or use the aux . I have not owned it long enough to rate the machine yet ."

Interestingly, the box at Sam's Club has "Includes 1-Year iFit Family Membership" printed on the side, but with a big round sticker over it that says "Includes 30-Day iFit Family Membership."

With Costco's customer service and extended warranty, I decided to risk it. Since the 1-Year Family Membership is $396 MSRP anyway, this is a free rower!
Included in the rower box is an old "iFit Coach Membership" card. Trying to activate it on iFit tells you the code is no longer valid, so you're at the mercy of calling customer support. The agent activated it for me after I emailed a picture of the card and receipt to her.
I haven't even set up or tried the rower yet lol but for those who are buying iFit right now anyway, it's worth a shot!
Gonna go to Costco or talk to ifit and see what's up
