Nope. Made out of whole cloth. Have used 2 similar dishes for years and years. My chocolate lab has never had a problem and various vets we've been to over the years recommend them and have stated the gum and teeth notion is a rumor.

Sorry it was a comment from someone else on another thread but when I got this one it's deep and narrow and I agreed with the comment. Dogs will dig a dig as we know .... here's the ladies commen.
"Please do not get this bowl if your dog has a short snout. It's tough for them to reach the food. My dog hurt himself to the point of bleeding from his gums since the valleys on the bowl are made from hard plastic."
Sorry it was another ladies comment/review and when I got the bowl I can see how your dig can easily hurt their snout cause it's so deep and narrow. I use another similar slow feeder with no issue. But I didn't want to rusk it as it seems to be ab accurate statement. Here is her comment
