One thing to note with this offer is that you can claim the 80,000 points with this and then downgrade the card to a Double Cash in a year. Effectively giving the Double Cash a 800$ sub
1) Meet spending requirement on Citi Premier card
2) Earn 80,000 point sign up bonus
3) Downgrade Premier to Double Cash or Custom Cash before you're charged with another annual fee
4) Points balance should carry over from Premier to your downgrade card

No that is the frustrating part. I spoke to someone on the phone and messaged via chat. They both said "the system will not allow it. I'm sorry". It's always the "system" with them. Just like what they told me about rescinding my bonus points. Almighty mysterious citi system
Thats the case for all Citi cards. I have an American Airlines and they wouldnt increase the limit even though i wanted to make a large purchase. Same thing with Costco Citi. You have to wait for the "Increase limit" tab to appear on your account. None of the CS reps would say why. On the other hand, i had the Venture X and Discover bump me up like $3-$5k at one time
Applied and got approved. Anyway to get the card sooner than 7 to 10 business days or get a temporary card number for use?
When i got this card, i was in same predicament where i had a big purchase to do but card would take 7 to 10 business days and i tried but there was nothing they could do. Another bad thing according to me is, your cycle of 3 months start when they post the card rather than your receiving date. You basically you have 2months and 20ish days to spend the money.
For those wanting the card ASAP, you can create a virtual account number on the CITI website once they add the card to your profile. That usually takes a a few days for them to do that. Then you can use that card online to make purchases towards the $4k without waiting for the card to arrive in the mail.
I have a friend who has this as his only citi card and "statement credit" is not an option for him. Neither is "direct deposit".
This is bad information. I have had several direct deposits to my checking account with this card. You can do statement credits, direct deposit, and check by mail. Your friend must not know how to navigate a website.
It is possible your Chase Bus application caused the denial. Try again in 8 days.
I applied for a Chase Marriott personal and then tried the Citi Premier and was instantly denied. Waited 8 days to apply again and was instantly approved.
See reference here: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/c...cards.html
The link is mainly about Citi AA but the 8 day wait is better explained:
Day 1 Apply for 65K AA Personal Plat MC - Starts 60-day and 24-month clocks. No apps of any kind recommended for 8 days.
Day 9 Apply for 50K AA Personal Plat MC using Mailer - Restarts 24-month clock for personal AA card & resets 60-day clock.
Darn it. Seems deal is now dead? I just did a quick Google look up, went to the citi website for this premier account and still shows 80k TYP after 4k spend. Is this accurate?
Now today 1/9/23, I just got the Citi letter stating that I was declined for "too many recent credit inquiries are recorded on your credit bureau report." Below it says "Experian" and their address.
Do you think I should try to apply online or call them for a reconderation? The chase ink card pull is not showing on my credit report yet but I know I have 4 hard pulls still from the last 2 years. The chase ink card technically would be my 5th hard pull in 2 years but the 1st one in like the last 12 months....make sense? Lol
I just don't want to waste a hard pull for nothing.

Just checked citi.com and 80K bonus is still there.
I got the same letter and called Citi for reconsideration but no go. So I just waited for 9 days (I'm paranoid) and re-applied and instantly approved.
From my experience, I only worry about hard pulls for Chase due to the 5/24 rule. I already got the good Chase deals (in my opinion) so went ahead and got the Citi Premier.
Trying again or not depends on you what you value more.

We went through our respective apps in lock step with each other and accessed the same menus. When he got to the redemption options, statement credit and direct deposit weren't there for his premier card but in my app they were.

Agree with this - I just got this card and my only options are in the app: Shop With Points, Gift Cards, and Pay With Points. No option for direct deposit for me.
There is no DD option in the app. You must use web version.
