Personally love Highschool DxD. Yes it's shameless fan service, but with a pretty cool story and some awesome animation if you're into angels and demons and epic battles. Having said that, easier and cheaper to just watch on Hulu or crunchyroll than buying blu rays.

What are you into?

FLCL is my personal favorite of this list
Attack on Titan Season 1 is a good intro to the series but the worst season imo (It's gory)
Space Dandy is a fun take on what Cowboy Bebop did
Death Parade has a nice atmosphere and fun story about what happens after death
Norigama is a favorite by many, light hearted comedy with some good action


A bulk of this stuff I wouldn't recommend to people trying to get into anime/back into anime, unless they know what they're getting into.

Spice & Wolf is a huge fan favorite. One of my favorite anime ever made.

Shimoneta is a hilarious and raunchy sex comedy.

Outside of a few, this is not Funimation's best assortment of titles.

You really won't get much out of anime in a blu ray.. you don't get a better picture that's for sure.. maybe some better audio? But personally I couldn't tell.. it's different from a live action movie blu ray where the picture and audio are top notch... I bought the one punch man blu ray and I really couldn't see any difference between the blu ray and streaming.. since then i haven't bought a anime blu ray unless of course you are a collector then by all means. I prefer to stream now.. hate it or love it it's the future..

Honestly it depends upon the genre you're into. Sometimes I'm feeling slice of life I go to some of the aforementioned. Other times when I want a thrill I look for recommendations based on one's I previously liked. Samurai Chomplo, AOT, etc. Personally, I'm a big fan of anime that doesn't rely on much fantasy. Even so, you can find recommendations on reddit & shop for a preference. I liked Eureka 7 on this thread.
