Fight Inflation - Stock up on shoes today before the Fed's inflation hike hits!
eg. Shipping costs now eats up about 1/4 of this shoe's selling price.
eg. Even the shoelaces this year are half-width to save on costs! Save your old ones!
Walmart has the Avia Highland sneakers for men and women on sale.
Nice cushioning that's even softer than my Nike Downshifers with a similar design (mesh upper with a thick foam sole with a partial rubber bottom for grip) and light weight.
Good for casual, non-sports wear as well as lighter running and sports.
Importantly for cheap imports, they are Made in China so the quality is high.
These are not like last year's Avias at Walmart - super-cheap crap that didn't fit or ride well - but more like the Avias from 3+ years ago - soft, cushy, fits well. Also, the partial rubber bottom is grippy like a Nike unlike last year's slippery models at Walmart.
You're likely good for about 2-3 years in storage before the foam/rubber naturally degrades, so don't try to stock up for a decade without expecting the level of cushioning to drop and even the rubber bottom to detach (which you can ShoeGoo back on).
(Yeah, I encountered the latter after unboxing a pair after 3+ years and using it awhile...)

Most things are made in China. So I don't get what you're saying.
Bottom line, good buy, I ordered another pair in other color.
With that said, I bought these and got them today. Not horrible for 20. For one thing, the tongue doesn't come all the way up like other shoes. Cushions are pretty good, and they feel pretty comfortable. Top is very thin though, might wear out pretty quickly.
edit:
I wore these around the block, less than a mile. my heel started hurting within half the distance. really odd because they feel bouncy like my new balance low end. returning it to the store.

$20 for a pair of shoes with Walmart's 3 month return policy is too good to refuse. I paid a lot more for legacy brand sneakers that self destruct in one or two months of use.

Imo, the shoes made in China that aren't the throwaways (low-mid price on up) are the nice ones. Solid build, consistent shoe to shoe (glueing, last, trim, width, feel), generally will last the year of use without falling apart, and good performance.
Variation imo from other countries is bigger, so one pair might fit or stay together well, another pair will fall apart faster or fit poorly.
That said, even my Nikes are made in Vietnam, so with the higher end shoes, the companies are willing to invest in equipment, training, and quality control in their search for lower wage costs outside China.
...
Also, for other things like food, China's been manufacturing long enough to western standards, and has broad enough education, governmental oversight, and know how to generally know how to keep contaminants out. Everyone from farmer to manufacturing plant gets it, so they can make everything from a flip flop to a nuclear aircraft carrier.
Places like Indonesia etc.... Well, it's like my friend said - you use your right hand to eat with, your left to...... =O And nowhere has their manufacturing capability risen to match China's by far.
...
Not saying every export is crap, just more variation and chance for disappointment for the non-bottom barrel-priced products.
As for the Avias, figure you can buy 3 Avias at $20 for every $60 Nike, and I've worn both over the years and for casual use, would always go for the good Avias as the better buy.
(Wal-Mart sometimes imports the crappy Avias - the ones with horrible fit, poor gel insoles, non-rubber bottoms. Like those camo green ones during covid years. But that's also Avia's fault for licensing broadly without checking the quality closely at times.)
Yes, I can slip into my Downshifters without worrying about the laces, and the eva foam might last a year longer, but even it has annoyances (e.g. After slipping into them, the shoelaces often winds up under the too flimsy tongue.). And the ride is slightly harder than the Avia, so I can feel the rocks and road more, tiring out my feet faster on long nature/mall walks.
Things like this vs the softer Avia ride and similar fit for my feet sway me to the Avias over the years.
But fit is important and everyone has different fit, so what's comfy and nice for me might not fit you, so definitely try them on first.
Nikes are made in Korea 🤷🏻 ♂️

I buy wide sizes for new balance, these didn't have wide sizes available. Length wise, they seem to be pretty close.

Most of the military clothing and furniture is made in China.
