They reviewed a lower end model. I would suggest you to check the Matthew Moniz YouTube review of this laptop who covered it in very high degree of details:

The Display actually goes brighter than 300 nits, around 330-340 nits.
During normal operation, this laptop is very silent with the fans hardly spinning.
In Short term workloads, it is very powerful, almost beating the 2021 XPS 15 with i7-11800H and 45W RTX 3050 Ti, due to efficiency of the Ryzen Processors.
Acer has released a Firmware Upgrade which enabled the CPU to consume around 35 to 37W sustained power during CPU only workload. Previously it was only 25 to 28 Watt.
Despite having powerful hardware and a small battery, the battery life is actually amazing, 8 Hrs+ with normal usage.

Not sure what you're trying to say here. Slow response time affects only when you're playing games in the laptop. Not sure how playing a video or watching a steam where the frames are not getting rendered, going to get affected by slow response time.
Apart from OLED panels, all the non gaming laptops with IPS panel, have very slow response time, including the highest end ones, like Dell XPS 15. Never heard people saying they are affected by slower response time when watching video.

Got it - thanks. I'm looking for a general daily-driver / productivity laptop, so more in the latter category. I think an iGPU will handle all my needs sufficiently. I had originally picked up this deal for such work, but I have a friend who is interested in taking it off my hands--hence I'm considering moving up a tier to a more capable laptop with better build quality.
If you have a Micro Center near you, check if that Lenovo Laptop is available with them. They were offering pretty lower price for that laptop, even $499 for a certified refurb.

Yup, I saw that deal! But some discussion on the thread made me hesitant to but a refurb from Microcenter - the extra warranty / return policy from Costco seems to justify the $150 premium.

I had the swift 3 one with the same display. Great laptop but the slow response times on the display made me want to puke when watching video, especially faster stuff like apex streams.
Probably some kind of codec issue, it's 60Hz, should be fine for watching videos. Slow response time is probably better for movies, not worse.

It got some crazy ghosting that was really hard to follow. The 13.5" Intel one was marginally nicer, but just something.

I don't get why you'd think a slow response times would be better for movies though

How safe would this be to buy? I am moving out of country for a year soon. Would this be fine for 2d game dev with unity?

Fast response time causes a stutter in low framerate stuff, just a guess.

Some people are more sensitive to stuff like ghosting or stutter than others.

Movies are 30 or less fps and no 60Hz screen, even with very high response time, won't be having issues to display those. I think that guy has some issues which he isn't able to describe and probably bios or driver issue. Probably complete uninstall and fresh install of graphics, chipset and audio drivers will address it. Have you ever heard in any reviews laptops having movie playing issues due to high response time?

I've recently learned this would be a great laptop for editors. The 5800u here performs up to 27% higher in multicore workloads at 29% less power than Intel's 11390h, a quad core "I7".

I currently been using this laptop for about 6 months from the same deal but paid $800 at the time. I added a 1tb ssd to it and its been running great. Only grip i have is the track pad. I wish they used a glass pad instead of plastic. Other than that i havent had any issues. Dont care about touchscreen to windows that only adds weight. Gaming is solid at medium settings on most games. Battery life is good as long as you dont do any heavy tasks. When gaming on battery it only last about 2 hours which is expected. Speakers are not that great too. In terms of portability and power i think this is one of the best outside the asus zeph 14 which costs a lot more.

Superb build, wish it only had a numpad. Also a touchscreen would have made this really fire

I mean the movies play smoothly without stutter, it's more an issue where everything bleeds/smears over to the next frame...

comparing the refresh rate UFO test (https://www.testufo.com/) for reading anything moving was very rough as well.

Superb deal.

Only nitpick is the lack of touchscreen, but that's purely subjective. I'll drool over it (more than I already am) if it did have it.
I used basic scripts to limit the cpu to 4-8w and get well over 10 hours battery. Matches the single core of a 9300h i used to have at a mere 8w. Also flashed the 40-45w vbios onto the 3050ti for a decent 10% performance upgrade. Within spitting distance of the 60w 1660ti max q i also had. Also able to run 1:1 synced IF/Mem with a basic mod to the bios also give a bit more perform. I really have no issues with 1080p60 medium settings in AAA or 100fps+ competitive low settings in things like overwatch, warzone, apex.

Do you really need the touchscreen? Touchscreens on laptops have generally been useless and have a lot of unnecessary glare added due to most being glossy. For that price you might as well look for a m1 macbook pro or m1 macbook air, the new ones are about to come out so expect the m1 versions to be heavily discounted soon unless you need windows .Easy to find sales for the air at $800 at costco or microcenter every month or so, expect them to go even lower as the new ones come out next month. The build quality/performance/display/battery of the air blows away most windows laptops in that $800 range for general use. Just don't buy if you want to do gaming unless you don't mind tinkering or having a much slimmer gaming library, games that run on the m1 natively have astounding performance for integrated graphics but there is only a handful at the moment

Which 14" laptop you've seen in your whole life, coming with a numpad?
