I used to have access to M1 macbook air 8gb, M1 macbook pro 8gb and this particular one.

M1 air was the best in terms of portability but I had a ton of issues with it freezing randomly (like 1-3 sec freezes under load, annoying as fark).

This one is the best in terms of performance but it's sooo clunky: really thick and rather heavy.

Performance is top notch though

It is possible that they might speed up the M2 version launch across the board (dates are artificially designed staggered sometimes for revenue reasons) because of the negative publicity around the hardware vulnerability discovered in the M1 chip for which there is no patch (even if that vulnerability is never exploited).

I was debating should I wait for 16gb/512gb Air. I decided to pull a trigger and just buy the entry level Pro from Micro Center and OMG, no regrets. Fantastic machine, amazing screen. This is probably a better deal than Air with similar specs imo. I'm guessing this is going to be a recurring deal since there is a shortage of Pros. I think retailers want to get as many orders as possible to get the lowest price from Apple.
