Yep, Japanese dominate the old electronics that work well for decades, Koreans dominate the flashy crap that lasts for a year or two. Agreed

I can't believe G Shock still doesn't make a smartwatch option. It's like the Japanese gave up after the 90s. Koreans dominate all the electronics now.

They do. It's the GSW line. A simple Google search would of saved you posting a dumb comment.

There are only a few Gs with heart rate, GPS, activities tracking and tough solar. Very bulky though. I am frustrated with water damaged waterproof Samsung watch, very dim Fitbit, can't afford a $500+ Garmin, ...

Really hope Casio can up the game.

Why do I need to google search when I can learn so much from geniuses like you on the internet?

Overreact much? Go drink your coffee.

This watch is fantastic. Yes, it does have a lack of smartwatch capabilities, but it is laser accurate due to the daily time sync, and never needs charging, which is really nice. I use the stopwatch and timer quite a bit, and there's also a way to record a point in time, and then you can go back and look at each of those moments. For example, if you were hiking and recorded a point each time you took a fork, you could then use those points to backtrack. It's a bit rudimentary, but can be good in situations like that. Barometer warning at camp is good if there is a sudden change, such as weather coming.

I have two of these, the standard screen in black band and the negative screen in green band. I like them both a lot. The standard screen is more readable inside, and the negative screen looks really good as well.

I don't wear them as often as I do my smartwatch now, but I wore the GShocks in literally ANYTHING without fear of them being compromised. I can't even take a shower with my smartwatch. Plus the bezel on the GShocks have a pretty large distance between the top and the screen, so it's hard for things to scratch the screen, which I really liked.

If they could put a full smartwatch into this and have the solar charging somehow take care of all of the charge, I'd be all over it. Maybe someday.

These are fantastic, especially for back country hiking

They don't have to make a smart watch as they sell tons of the G Shocks. I just read an article this year where they interviewed students at military schools in an effort to determine the most popular watches that the cadets are wearing. The results were split down the middle between the Casio G-shock and the Garmin with GPS. The majority of the cadets wearing the Garmin were pilots, while the non pilots preferred the G Shock for it's toughness in all weather conditions. Although, they did find some pilots still prefer the G Shock but the majority of them were Garmin. Still, the amount of G Shocks being worn was impressive and are preferred for most combat/land based military personnel.

I also see a lot of people in rough labor jobs like construction, plumbing and contracting, that wear the G Shock. Why would you want to mess up a nice smart watch when the G Shock can withstand the rough conditions of a job like that? Smart watches are nice and have a ton of features, but you do realize that people have jobs other than sitting in an office or being a soccer mom. Some people need a real watch that can take a licking and keep on ticking.

Long Live The G Shock!

FYSA, I just paid $250 for Garmin Instinct 2, which has 95% of the features of the $600-$1600 watch lines (from an app functionality perspective), just got it and it is pretty amazeballs

Good perspective! Long live G Shock as well! I still have mine and it is still in my rotation.

I do feel bad that they have lost market share. They used to be the choice of students, casual fashion, sports/adventure, tech geeks, as well as construction.

This watch is a beast. I wear it whenever I can now but wore it almost everyday in the past year.
