what about build quality and reliability? I'm only looking for a spare TV for the bedroom, so I don't want to spend that much. (but if there's one thing that I hate, it's having to return a bad TV to the store and drag a replacement home... or worse, waiting for the TV repair people to show up)

I had purchased a 55" a couple weeks back - went into chat with the customer service, only took a few minutes and they refunded me $106.25 to my credit card, didn't even mess with sending a shop card.
I cannot confirm if it is my form I filled out that helped, or the call - but one of the 2 worked!
So if you had a recent purchase, suggest reaching out - they didn't try and push me on a "return/rebuy"… may save others the hassle, as always YMMV
Edit: Tomorrow is officially two weeks for me and the shop cards have not been emailed yet.
I'm coming up on 2 weeks since delivery but no shop card yet.
