At $450 effective price with Apple's educational discount and $100 gift card promo, the Air 5 is a much better value right now, if 64GB is enough - it has always been for me, as with streaming I use much less local storage.
ETA: I should've also included Thunderbolt (vs USB-C) and 120 Hz "Promotion," but still not worth $250 IMO.

and if you have a chase freedom card, you have 5% cash back. You also get another $10 dollars off if you choose to pick up at an Amazon locker with code 10OFFPICKUP. is it because M2 Processor was announced?

I think mainly Ipad Air 5 getting M1 has taken some shine off Ipad Pro 11. Air 5 , although lower storage at 64GB , has been as low as 500 recently.

It is getting close to the release time for the new iPad Pro (Fall 2022), so people are not as enthusiastic about this 'old' model. But the M1 already has more power than any user needs, and having a M2 iPad isn't going to make a difference in anybody's workflow. The iPad OS is the real limiting factor now. And, when iPad OS 16 is released it will improve the M1 iPad as much as it does the M2 version.
People also make the mistake of comparing this to the iPad Air. As @Alex mentioned, the similarities are superficial. The iPad Pro is a much more capable machine than the Air. No competition at all!

I got the iPad Pro a few months ago at the $700 price, but the relatively small differences aren't worth $250.
