If you have a use for apple gift cards (usable on products from the Apple Store, apple subscriptions, apps, etc) you can order from the apple education store and pay $749 and get a $100 GC with the the ipad. That may be a better deal.
The iPad Pro is a far better value. 128gb storage is plenty, plus the quad speakers and 120hz display. The Air is overpriced IMO especially their storage option pricing.
I have the '21 Pro and it's great, but it's hard to make the case that it's a "much more capable machine" than the Air 5. The differences are better speakers and microphone, better cameras (but who takes pictures with their tablet?), very slightly better/larger display, and higher base storage. The internals - M1 processor and 8GB RAM - are basically identical.

At $450 effective price with Apple's educational discount and $100 gift card promo, the Air 5 is a much better value right now, if 64GB is enough - it has always been for me, as with streaming I use much less local storage.

ETA: I should've also included Thunderbolt (vs USB-C) and 120 Hz "Promotion," but still not worth $250 IMO.

Am I missing something? why isnt this getting attention? just curious. This was front page during April https://slickdeals.net/f/15735205-bestbuy-apple-11-inch-ipad-pro-wi-fi-128gb-699-99?attrsrc=search%3Aterm%3Aipad%7Csearch%3Apage%3A2%7Csearch%3Aposition%3A1%7Csearch%3Aresult_type%3Athread%7Csearch%3Aresult_id%3A15735205&src=SiteSearchV2Algo1

and if you have a chase freedom card, you have 5% cash back. You also get another $10 dollars off if you choose to pick up at an Amazon locker with code 10OFFPICKUP. is it because M2 Processor was announced?

I think mainly Ipad Air 5 getting M1 has taken some shine off Ipad Pro 11. Air 5 , although lower storage at 64GB , has been as low as 500 recently.

As a previous poster have said, the M1 iPad Air has reduced the appeal of the iPad Pro a bit. For the price you can get a 256GB iPad Air and the extra storage there is nice. There are a lot of cool features specific to Pro, but less impactful for my day to day usage. I also personally prefer a Touch ID over Face ID.

This IS a great deal. Only the Apple Edu Store deal beats it, and only because of the $100 promo. You can bring the price down to $630 if you use the Apple Card, along with interest free financing. But you do give up on the extended warranty that other cards offer.

It is getting close to the release time for the new iPad Pro (Fall 2022), so people are not as enthusiastic about this 'old' model. But the M1 already has more power than any user needs, and having a M2 iPad isn't going to make a difference in anybody's workflow. The iPad OS is the real limiting factor now. And, when iPad OS 16 is released it will improve the M1 iPad as much as it does the M2 version.

People also make the mistake of comparing this to the iPad Air. As @Alex mentioned, the similarities are superficial. The iPad Pro is a much more capable machine than the Air. No competition at all!

Question. I use my iPad mainly as a web browser and comic reader. I read that the m1 display had a lot of issues with bleed and things like that. Is that still the case?

I purchased two refurbished iPad Pros earlier this year and have not noticed any issues with the screen.

I believe you are referring to the blooming issues on the mini LED versions (12.9"). This one doesn't have that display

And the iPad Air 5 is effectively $450 if you qualify for the educational discount from Apple and value the $100 gift card at face value: https://slickdeals.net/f/15866137-apple-back-to-school-2022.

I got the iPad Pro a few months ago at the $700 price, but the relatively small differences aren't worth $250.

To save on cost, wish they would remove the rear camera and keep just the front facing one. Anybody who uses their 11" tablet to take photos looks like a complete tool.
