If you are installing synthetic decking manufacturers like Trex or Azek strongly recommend joists at 12 to 14 inches on center. So instead of 2 X 10s you can go 2 X 8s with shorter spacing and have similar strength and deflection.

Depends on specs.... what, when and where.

For a lot of interior and soft woods, these $0.88 hangars [lowes.com] will work just fine. It all depends on load.

Contractor here....these are very useful in decking, balcony, trellis and even floor joist applications....great price as usually you'd need a bunch of these

Correct that the ones you posted will work for INTERIOR applications. The ones posted by the OP are rated for exterior use with pressure treated lumber. Not really the same thing.
