For those who haven't used this before, think about the pros and cons. Pro is that you are off the ground. Cons, you have to move all of your crap stored in the truck as part of your trip either in the cap or on the ground. Having to take down the tent when you want to head out somewhere.

This is the kind of thing that seems like a good idea until you actually use it.
Only way to afford housing in San Fran or NYC…
What's the advantage over just a regular tent that isn't attached to your vehicle?

These Rightline truck tents were a Frontpage deal last month at Amazon and Walmart for $108.30, receiving + 33 votes from the community. Now even lower at REI.

I'm surprised this deal isn't getting much attention, as REI's pricing is slicker than last month's Frontpage deal. I, too, would be interested in any reviews!

Just bought a napier suv tent for $230. Wondering how this tent compares. Looks like Napier has fiberglass poles while commenters complain about this tents plastic poles breaking. I'm on the fence about returning my Napier snd buying this.

The suv tent can stand alone so you just disconnect from the car snd can leave it

I think for some it's sleeping off of the ground. But I think for others, I think it's just some idea that this is somehow a better idea than just a standalone tent that frees you from your vehicle.

Even the rooftop tents seem silly unless you don't plan on driving anywhere after setting up. That takedown and setup cycle would get annoying really fast.

Direct access to vehicle storage at night. Just one idea.

Oh, if you have a sliding window in back of truck and leave it open, you have someplace to go that is a little more secure when the bears are out for their 2am picnic.

Otherwise, you need an air mattress for either.

With an ever increasing number of crazies wandering around today, camping can be dangerous. I have ran into a bunch of them off the beaten track and there is no going back to sleep unless you at least tie them to a tree.

I built a bed platform in the back of my subaru so i guess the convenience of hoping from the back to the tent without exiting the vehicle? And i can cook, lounge in the tent without needing to step outside. Im still not sure how practical it is, having to set it up everytime but It might be good if you go overlanding alot and tend to camp at national forests/blm land frequently. Also can take family camping and sleep many people. Heres a more in depth look at what it looks like all set up: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=eeqDHyZk8yA

Yes, I have been around those and if expecting rain, park the vehicle with the nose going downhill so any rain goes towards the front. Otherwise, it seems to either drip at the lift door hinge, or further back into the tent.

During a drizzle, they also cooked in the tent part with frying fish we caught and that SUV smelled like fish for a month.... every cat in the neighborhood was on it, or under it. But, it was easy enough to unhook and use the vehicle. It also works with a cap on a truck that is my favorite choice. With an 8ft bed, air mattress, sliders between cap and cab with a boot, it is not Holiday Inn, but not bad. Sliders with screens on sides and a screened roof vent, fresh air without the bugs.

But, if you are walking in, tent it is and bring some driveway alarms for a perimeter and put some black tape over the red lights. No sense in giving notice where they are.
