Nice deal. Don't need it but this length and size reel should be good for pier, jetty and also catfishing IMO. Here in SoCal its a bit on the heavy side for the surf but you could get away with it in a pinch. The ideal surf rod length is 9ft+ if possible although I've fished 6'6 rods in the surf and caught fish when they are close to shore (in the white water and troughs)

Dont like Penn rods since my Battle 2 broke the first time out. They gave me nothing but a hassle about warranty also.
